Jacob 'the Squid' Pepperoni considered himself a tough customer. The cops had nothing on him. If he kept his mouth shut they would never find the money, and wouldn't be able to link it with him. There was nothing to worry about. He didn't even need to call a lawyer. He had been questioned again and again. They couldn't get anything out of him. Not even smart remarks. All he had to do was clam up and he was home free.

The door to the interrogation room opened and in walked the latest flatfoot that would attempt to worm the truth out of him. Fat chance. A camera recorded everything that happened in the room so Jake the Squid knew the cops couldn't get rough.

The newest cop was a guy in his forties of slightly below average height and build. His long homely face was dominated by a long nose and a prominent chin. Messy black hair reached out from underneath his grey fedora as if it was trying to escape. He was dressed as if he was expecting to go outdoors, for in addition to his hat he was wearing a matching raincoat and brown gloves.

"All right, punk," he said in a voice that sounded like a bad imitation of Nick Charles from the old Thin Man movies, "I want some answers. My name is Inspector Gadget… Wowsers!"

Somehow, the clumsy inspector managed to trip over his two feet and that was when the world stopped making sense to Jacob Pepperoni. Dropping his document folder, Gadget reached forward in an attempt to stop himself.

No, I mean he really reached forward. His arms stretched out of his sleeves revealing themselves to be flexible telescoping tubes of metal. The top of his hat opened to reveal a mechanical arm ending in a yellow gloved hand also reaching forward. Worse yet, his neck stretched as well, revealing it also was a telescoping metal tube!

Jake Pepperoni froze in his chair as Gadget's hands gripped the wall in back of him before the robotic nightmare pushed himself back to his feet. Unfortunately, Gadget's foot stepped on his folder and the inhuman inspector fell to the ground as his neck and arms retracted back into his torso.

At that moment, the fingers on his hands snapped open to reveal that they were hollowed out each one contained a particular gizmo or tool. The one that had Pepperoni's undivided attention had to be the laser that shot out of his pointer finger to shoot out the florescent light in the ceiling that came crashing down on the table between them.

"Sorry about that," Gadget muttered as his hands went back to normal. The hand that had emerged from his hat picked up his folder and handed it back to him. "These things happen from time to time," he said nonchalantly as he sat down in the chair before the table. "As I was saying… Oops, I lost my pen. No matter. Go-go-Gadget pen!" The laser shot out his pointer finger and reflected off the one way glass on the wall to ricochet to hit the wall behind the suspect. "Whoops, wrong hand," Inspector Gadget shrugged as he pointed with his other hand. "Go-go-Gadget pen." An archaic fountain pen head emerged from the inspector's finger. "Now, let's start at the beginning…"

"I'll talk!" Jake Pepperoni screamed. "I'll talk! The money is hidden in a hole in the wall in my mother's basement! Behind the water heater! I did the bank job! Now get him out of here please!"

"Congratulations Gadget," Chief Quimby smiled as the bionic detective left the interrogation room. "You got him to talk in less than a minute!"

"Well Chief," Gadget said as he pulled the brim of his hat down to assume a mysterious pose. "The criminal underworld knows better than to match wits with Inspector Gadget!"
