AN: I have three different muses all tugging on my sleeves with stories, and while I was trying to get them to play fair and take turns, the Historian stole my computer and came up with this. It's his take on a conversation that will come up again when I get "Knights, Princes, and Kings" worked out and posted, which may not happen until after Christmas. Anyway, enjoy, and let me know what you think!

Disclaimer: I do not own Edmund Pevensie, the King James Bible, I Kings 3, Solomon, God, or Aslan. They have been disclaimed.

He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Micah 6:8, KJV

And lo, the future king was troubled in his heart and he prayed to the Lord.

And the Lord said unto him, Lackest thou aught?

And the Prince said, Thou has shewed great kindness unto thy servant Peter my brother according as he hath walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him a throne above all others, and to my sisters hast thou also given thrones and dominion. And to me hast thou shown great mercy, though I did act contrary to thy laws. And now, O Lord my God, thou hast said thou shalt also make thy servant a king with my brother and my sisters: and I am but a little child. I know not whence I did come nor whither to go.

And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad; for who alone may well rule this thy great people?

And the speech pleased the Lord, that the boy had asked this thing. And the Lord said unto him, Because thou hast asked, neither for riches nor for honour among men, but for thyself understanding to discern right and wrong: Lo, I have given unto thee a wise and understanding heart; so that there shall be none like thee in all the land. And also have I given thee that which thou didst not ask: riches and honour above all kings except for thy brother the High King. And if thou wilt walk in my ways, keeping my statutes and my commands, then will I give thee a life rich and full of blessing.

And so it was. For the Lord blessed the Kings and Queens in all they did, and whatever they put their hands to did prosper. And there were brought before the younger king crimes and quarrels both great and small, and he did judge all fairly and with wisdom and mercy, and all the land did hear of the judgements which the king did pronounce. And sinners and doers of evil did fear him, but the upright did love him, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him.
