Author has written 33 stories for Chronicles of Narnia, and Bible. On LJ and Twitter - PM me for details! "I want to read a great many things to my children from the time they are quite young—stories of heroes and stories of history, speeches from Shakespeare and long passages of Scripture, children's stories and grown people's stories and little stories in Latin and very long stories indeed. Anything, anything that was good and lovely and pure and noble, that lifts the mind and calls the soul to higher things. Children should be given the courage of the Norse, the philosophy of MacDonald, the logic of Lewis, the poetry of Donne, the wisdom of the Book, the beauty of the earth, the faith of Abraham, the hope of Paul, and the Love of Christ Himself." From the time I was six years old, I have read anything I can get my hands on and delighted in story well told. Books that have shaped and stuck with me include the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder, the Little Britches books by Ralph Moody, Elizabeth Tudor by Marguerite Vance, St. Louis and the Last Crusade by Margeret Ann Hubbard, Flatland by Edwin Abbot, Le Morte D’Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory, Idylls of the King by Alfred Lord Tennyson, Alice in Quantumland by Robert Gilmore, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Beowulf, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, After the Flood by Bill Cooper, Kingdom Tales by David and Karen Mains, A Wrinkle in Time and sequels by Madeline L'Engle, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling, Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan, and of course the Bible and the Chronicles of Narnia. In July 2011 I finally read all the Chronicles (in about three days), became utterly obsessed with them, looked for the Lion at the back of all stories, and began work on getting Susan back to Narnia after the Last Battle, in what turned into my three-part Susan arc, beginning with A Weary Way. On my LiveJournal I have headcanon stuff, bits of commentfic, timelines, original fic and nonfic. Live long and write bookverse! OldFashionedGirl95 Collected Quotes: "It's a jolly good thing it wasn't you was hurt. I'm glad it was me. There! If it had been you, you'd have been lying on the sofa looking like a suffering angel and being the light of the anxious household and all that. And I couldn't have stood it." Peter to Bobbie in The Railway Children, by E. Nesbit. "The younger gods again shall meet "But when I hear you laughing so carelessly, I feel like I have to carry Narnia for the both of us. Because one day you will want it back." "In a thousand words I can have the Lord's Prayer, the 23rd psalm, the Hippocratic oath, a sonnet by Shakespeare, the Preamble to the Constitution, Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, and almost all of the Boy Scout Oath. Now exactly what picture were you planning to trade for all that?" Roy H. Williams "Prince Arthur gave a boxe of Diamond sure. King Tirian's Campaign Platform for the Presidential Race: "I'm the guy who isn't afraid to show his emotion. Meet me at the White Rock to hold a dialogue on the state of our country!" "To some degree, the mind and soul seemed to shape themselves to the body, so childhood only felt like a vise for a few weeks. Then it became a set of too-tight clothes, then simply scratchy wool, and then even the itch was gone and Lucy was a girl in a girl's body, not a woman trapped in a perversion of nature." Elizabeth Culmer, "None Sing Hymns to Breath" "He tried not to understand that he was only half a boy and even less a Watchman, because an Old wizard is not truly himself without a king to pledge to, and Bran had given up that right (not realizing that he was, in the process, also giving up Will)." Why I hate the fridge-horror ending for TDIRS. "Don't be tetchy, Peter," Mary scolded. "Asim and I are experts in intending to journey somewhere and ending up somewhere else, and we would have indeed been in the Okavango Delta without a canoe if we hadn't been prepared. For instance, Asim, do you remember the time we were trying to get from Zanzibar to Madagascar?" "Ed! Are you still awake?" Lucy whispered beside him. |
