Author has written 1 story for Fire Emblem. Age: 30's Likes: Videogames, manga/animé, fanfiction, friends (not necessarily in this order) Dislikes: Is this some kind of dating guide? BTW, the profile picture is my own design. Nice, huh? My opinions on: Fanfiction It took me quite a while to discover the concept of fanfiction, but when I did, boy, was I amazed at the kind of stuff people can cook up in their minds. And I mean that in the best way possible. I've spent many hours enjoying many good stories that Ive found on this site, and hope that there will be many more to come. Grammar Look, I can understand if English/whatever-language-you're-writing-in is not your first language. Neither is it for me. That being said, grammar for a story is what the skeleton is for the body. Without the rigid core of bones, a body will collapse in a literal boneless heap, no matter how well developed the muscles are. In the same way, a story without proper grammar will never make anyone really enjoy reading it, no matter how good the plot is. How is my English so good then, you may ask? Well, the most important factor is that I've exposed myself to the English language for a long time. In fact, it started during my childhood when I regularly watched English cartoons. I had no idea at first what the characters were talking about, but it slowly helped me get a feel for the language. In time, English became second nature to me because I kept exposing myself to the language. Granted, I started out young in this process, but the same can be applied even if you're an adult. Heck, I've learned some Japanese phrases through several hours of watching animé online, and that started when I was in my teens. My point is, if learning proper English grammar was possible for me, it's definitely possible for you too. Remember; practice makes perfect. And that practice will make your stories much better in the future, both for you and your readers. Long periods of time between story updates Trying my hand at writing fanfiction has made me realize how much work is put into writing a good story. Not only do you need to advance the plot in a sensible way (in case there is any - I've read some stories that didn't even have much of a plot and I still enjoyed them), you need to take other factors into consideration like grammar, chapter length, character interactions, describing various scenes etc. This can take a lot of time, as it does in my case. |
