Author has written 13 stories for Twilight, Firefly, West Wing, Star Trek: 2009, Doctor Who, and Sandman. Thought I better update this to reflect all the stuff I've been up to and what better way to do that than with a meme? Please, don't hurl tomatoes at me. They stain. Other vegetables are preferred. Er, okay. Hi, I'm Miranda River. My name is a Serenity reference, which is actually a Shakespeare reference and I really love it. Other names that I've been known to go by-Pineapple Jones, Kayleigh Huffington and Quatala. I'm a junior in college, with a double major in Political Science and history. I took Latin for four years and I'm taking Arabic right now. I love languages and I tend to obsess about things-be them dinosaurs (when I was five), Robin Hood (when I was eight-ten), Titanic (ten-eleven), Sherlock Holmes (twelve-now thanks to Robert Downey Jr. playing Sherlock Holmes), The Tudors (thirteen-now), Ironman (last summer), Star Trek( omg j'adore Spock!) and anything that's ever captured my fancy. Fabulous! And what got you into fanfiction to begin with? Do you tend to write the same pairings/characters? Or are you a fandom whore? No, I'm amazingly monogamous. Josh/Donna from the West Wing, Mal/Inara from Firefly/Serenity, Spock/Uhura from Star Trek 2009 are my favorites right now. What is your most popular fanfiction and why do you think people like it so? I was really pleased by the reception that Nomines and Love got. I was so afraid that I wouldn't capture Spock and he would be so OOC and I was so glad that people didn't think so. I also adore Recovery. I love Josh and Donna and they're so much fun to write. So really, asking me which one I'm most proud of is like which of my children I'm most proud of. I don't have any children, by the by. Do you find writing easy? Hard? What are the most difficult aspects of writing? I had concussion about a year ago and for about six months it was nearly impossible to write. The simple act of putting words in front of each other was profoundly difficult. I was so glad to have my ability to write back after being without it for so long. Every once in a while I'll get a migraine and I won't be able to write, so it serves as a reminder of how awesome it is to be able to write. Write a few sentences or so of your favorite pairing or character. I love Josh and Donna because they are the masters of misdirection. They spent the entire canonical series trying to persuade other people that they weren't into each other that they were able to convince themselves that the other wasn't romantically interested. I love the balance, or rather the imbalance of romance and politics and above all I love how much they need each other. Josh literally needs Donna to function, while Donna needs Josh to keep her sane. It's the sort of relationship I would be lucky to find myself in. But then, my life isn't a serial drama. I'm also currently fangirling Spock and Uhura because they are absolutely perfect for each other. She pulls out his humanity and he's able to handle her-he isn't intimidated by her and is proud of her intelligence and independence. They're so much fun to write because you have to be especially careful with Spock, since he's half-Vulcan. So it's like writing an alien Mr. Darcy and I love it. By the way, if anyone knows where I could get a Spock, Star Trek 2009 if you please, I'd appreciate it ;) Are there any fanfic trends or cliches that you just can't stand or are sick of? Threesomes are popular and I can't, for the life of me, figure out why? In my head I mutter leematha? and just shake my head and kind of wonder. I mean no offense, if they are well written, that's something completely different, but I don't understand orgies for the sake of orgies. But I think that's just me. And I'm kind of uncomfortable with Spock/Kirk stories. I don't know why. It's just weird in my head. The same goes with Sam/Josh stories in the West Wing realm. I guess maybe because they've always struck me as straight guys. Are you guilty of any fanfic trends or cliches you now hate? Or any other ones? I wrote a Twilight fanfic. I'm not particularly proud of it anymore. And oh my god do I love lemons. What would you call your "writing style"? Do you read other people's fanfic? If so, what do you read the most? All the time. I think I've read virtually every Star Trek 2009 Spock-Uhura fanfic. And I regularly check the West Wing page to see if there's anything awesome, which there normally is. Name one thing you'd LOVE to write, but have been to afraid or shy to do so. This used to be lemons, but I started dabbling at that and the reviews were positive. I don't think I'll ever be pornographic in my writing, but at least I can write a decent lemonade and have it go over well within the fanfic community. Do you have trouble taking critism? Or, worse yet, to you have the dreaded inflated ego? Moi? An ego? No... When you write, is there anything that helps? i.e. music, or a quiet room? It depends. Most of the time there's music, or tv involved. Or I'll need complete quiet if I'm just getting over a migraine. And I need my captain's chair ;) Lastly, how would you sum up your fanfiction expierences and yourself as a writer? Always positive. I love fanfiction.net and I love writing. It's been such an amazing creative outlet for me and it's been so lovely getting reviews. So don't be shy giving me reviews. They seriously make my day. And feel free to message me at any time. I love hearing from readers. OK, narisstic, but I felt like changing it up. I hope it was at least fun for you to read! |
