![]() Author has written 9 stories for Twilight, and Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. Hi. My real name is Debbie, or Deb, don't care which. Once upon a time, I had a website with my Buffy & Angel/Vincent & Catherine (Beauty & the Beast) fanfic on it, but it was on Geocities, which, as you may know, Yahoo closed down in October 2009 without warning (that I ever saw, anyway). I'm a Twilight fan, and that saga is the first story to capture my heart since Buffy and Angel went off the air. As you can see here, I tried my hand at writing Twific, but found it really difficult, and I'm not happy with the results. I'll probably take them all down someday, just to warn you. (Added 12/06/16): Just a quick note. I'm now a huge fan of the BBC's Sherlock. Johnlock, of course! I don't have any fics saved here, but I've bookmarked quite a few on AO3 under this same screen name. And of course immediately after writing this I went browsing and found some wonderful stories that I favorited here. *g* (Added 12/31/11): If you go through my Favorites lists you'll notice that they're no longer all Twilight stories and authors. I've recently become interested in Harry Potter fanfic - specifically, HP slash and, more specifically, Harry/Snape slash, although Harry/Draco runs a close second. Yeah, I'm a little surprised too. Anyway, just a general warning for you all. AARGGHH!: Suddenly I am seeing this mistake everywhere! The correct phrase is "another THINK coming," not "another THING coming." For example: "If you think I'm going to kiss you, Jacob Black, you have another think coming." "Think" in the last half of the sentence refers back to the first time it's used, whereas "thing" makes no sense whatsoever. Think about it, folks. ;) Pet Peeves: Overuse of adverbs. Not every verb needs to be modified every time. Ditto for nouns and adjectives. Words that make me cringe when I read them: "Coo/cooed/cooing" - only if you're talking about doves, please - "Mewl" - all I can say is "Ew." "Pout" is another one I don't get. Is Bella pouting all the time supposed to be cute? Or sexy? 'Cause it just makes me think of my kids when they were, oh about two years old. Not an attractive look, IMO, unless it's done playfully and rarely. I/me confusion. Carlisle looked at Edward and I. Nope, not correct. Take out Edward's name. You wouldn't say Carlisle looked at I; no, you'd say Carlisle looked at me. Therefore the sentence should read Carlisle looked at Edward and me. Same for he/him and she/her. This isn't foolproof because sometimes the right word just doesn't sound right (for example, I knew it was she who was calling on the phone is correct, but it sure sounds awkward) but it's a pretty good rule of thumb. Misuse of apostrophes. Grrr, BIG TIME PET PEEVE! Apostrophes are used ONLY for contractions (isn't instead of is not, can't instead of cannot, you're instead of you are) or possessives (Edward's eyes, the Cullens' house), not, I repeat NOT for plurals (not puppie's for sale, or the Cullen's always sit alone). Pronouns are an exception (because this is English, which has more exceptions to the rules than any other language, I think. I hope.). Apostrophes are not used for possessive pronouns - his eyes, the dress is hers (not her's), is this yours (not your's), that house is ours (not our's), the bird flapped its (not it's) wings. "It's" can ONLY mean "it is" or "it has." Okay, lecture's (contraction for "lecture is") over for now! Sorry, but these kinds of things drive me wild. I won't get started on breath/breathe, loath/loathe, lose/loose, taut/taught, horde/hoard, etc. Aren't you glad? ;-) |
