I am enjoying this story, and I think you are doing some good research for it. However, you are rather off on your exchange rates (in the author notes, rather than the story - so no big deal). Between 1880 and 1900, the rate held pretty steady at $4.85-$4.87 to the pound. Also, there were 20 shillings to the pound (I am old enough to still think in shillings :D ), so the conversion would be 9s$2.19. Of course, both currencies had a higher 'real' value, and your numbers may well give a good exchange rate of Victorian pounds to 2016 dollars - I don't really know. Paid by time, your cabbie may have been asking a reasonable fare, depending on how long he had to wait. Three shillings sounds about right for a distance fare (a shilling for the first two miles, then 6d (half a shilling) for each subsequent mile (or part-mile), unless you were travelling outside a four-mile radius of Charing Cross, when the rate per mile went up to one shilling. It would still seem a lot of money to Jenny, so her mutterings are entirely in character :)
Keep up the good work :)

Jenny and Vastra being awkward dorks and Vastra nerding out about scientific things, what more could I possibly want? Such a good chapter.

I love the story! Please hurry to update it!
IrisSteth chapter 2 . 7/14/2015
Aww thanks for the credit! I loved how this chapter turned out!

It seems Ms. Flint is a 'Jenny of all trades' I hope Vastra appreciates how much she does! Really, how did Vastra manage without Jenny anyway?!

A Choice for the book. Frankenstein is a classic and truly an amazing piece of literature (I think she was only 16 when she wrote it too!) I could see Jenny rereading it over and over again as she tries to process all the confusing science and time travel world she's been thrown into.

And what a cliffhanger we've been left on! Can't wait for the next update!

Ohhh I'm glad to see you've decided to continue. Quite the mystery we've got on our hands here! Your pace was perfect and I loved your line about 'it overcame her like a tsunami to a fly' its a really great description and stuck out to me. I also like the still... tentative relationship that Jenny and Vastra have at this point in time. They aren't quite balanced yet but they are much improved from their first meeting!

I can't wait to read more but I know how writing can take time, so I will patiently await your next update.
