I do this sometimes as well, when I really need motivation. Somehow it's easier for me to work when a fictional character actually cares if I get things done. I loved the actual plot, even leaving Tony and Bruce aside, and good luck on that paper!
Also, I HAVE to respond to your author's note, just because - look at my username, but I am Team Cap as well. Like, Tony is literally my favorite MCU character. And I'm still Team Cap. Just because Ross sucks and will totally misuse the accords. So I really appreciate people who can say they're on Cap's side but don't hate Tony. So yay, you're a good person, and DANG you picked the RIGHT people to talk to in your head.
