Poor Gine, Bardock and even Raditz

I believe this one-shot is the perfect represenation of Goku's thought process concerning his past. As we all know, subsequent to bumping his head, Goku forgot all about Gine and Bardock, as well as Raditz. Upon meeting his brother for the first time and every other Saiyan after (asides Tarble), he had long come to the conclusion that the Saiyans were ruthless murderers, so why would he wish back his parents, who he most definitely believed to fit that category.

Goku here showing his love for Goten in my opinion, is absolutely in character and is a precious moment. Despite being the naive protagonist that we all know him to be, Son Goku does love his family and friends.

Toriyama has said that Goku only sees his family and everyone else as companions and many fans don't really like it, as it gives them the impression that Goku doesn't really care deeply for them, when they couldn't be further for the truth. Goku, being a pure-blooded Saiyan, was never meant to make a family and grow close to them, but get stronger. However, we see nature vs nurture, with the latter winning over the former, all thanks to Son Gohan (Grampa Gohan).

People can rave on and on about Goku being a bad father all they want, whether it be disguised as jokes or be a straightforward belief. We all know that Goku's actions on multiple occasions proves that he loves all his friends and family as if they were his own.

Because they are.

And if given the chance to meet his parents, I'm sure Goku would take a liking to Bardock and Gine. If he can look past Bardock's actions and see that he holds a calmer heart and better judgement than most Saiyans, he'd respect him a bit more, especially if he were to learn that it was Bardock's choice to send him off for his own safety. And upon meeting Gine, he'd be utterly surprised by her personality and would most undoubtedly take a liking to her.

Nice one-shot. I'd reccomend reading with Death Note's OST "Taikutsu/Boredom" as it really sets the mood for this little story. Well done.

So cute... so many emotions... I'm struggling to form words. I just need to squeeze something.

I really liked this. Goten was always one of my favorite characters, personally, so it's a little sad that he feels so overlooked a lot of the time. (I honestly felt like he only existed in the show half the time to add a cuteness element and balance out Trunks's more aggressive nature.) There definitely was not enough time spent on watching him and Goku get to know each other. So now that I'm finally getting into Super and the first episode opens up on a peaceful life where the two seems perfectly familiar and at ease with each other... it just definitely feels like there's something missing there. So I love seeing fics like this that explore that time! Thank you for sharing it!
