Wow. I’ve literally never liked fics that involved babies before - horribly domestic, as Nine would say - but something about this sold it to me. I liked it.

This fic appeared on a Nine/Rose must read fic list (I forget where) and, ergo, I decided that I must read it. And boy am I glad I did! This was beautifully written, and the story is sweet, too. I can just see the two of them from, what are we supposed to do with a baby?, to being almost unable to give her up in the end. It is so sweet. And Jackie's and Mickey's assumptions were spot on, too. I love the progression of, "I'm the Doctor, this is my companion, Rose, and this is a random baby we picked up along the way" (my paraphrase) to "I'm the Doctor, and this is my wife and child." Beautiful. I think that the scene that got me the most was the Doctor breaking down when Starr called him "Da," and he realized he couldn't, but had to let her go. Just perfect. I wish they could've kept her, but TARDIS really is no place for a baby

There should be more fics that deal with the Doctor (any of them post-war) missing having children. Not just his family and his world but missing taking care of something like a child or grandchild... or random telepathic alien baby dropped into his arms as he flees a war zone.

This is so beautiful, and incredibly sad at the same time! I love how Starr remembers the people who took care of her and regards them to be her true parents (although that is kind of sad for her biological father and mother who only gave her away because they knew she wouldn't survive in these war-torn lands). She became a lovely person, taught by the Face of Boe and by what Rose and the Doctor showed her is important in life.

To see how Rose and he truly became parents to her, how their loved the little Star Child and became a family - that was beyond beautiful. But then to know of their pain, of the fear because they were aware they would have to let her go eventually and when at last that day came and Starr finally called Rose "mama" - I cried a little there.

You've made great use of some S2 aspects, showing that this story takes place in an AU world were Nine didn't regenerate so soon and Jack wasn't as permanently seperated from the duo as in the canon. The scene at Jackie's was pure gold, especially Mickey's: "Mummy and Daddy and Auntie Jack are completely nutters." That mentioned, you mixed everything here: humour, fluff and pain.
