A key to appreciating this story is not only seeing "Larry's Birthday" but also “Monkey Fist Strikes” and “Motor Ed”.

In “Monkey Fist Strikes” we see how deep her anti-geek feelings run-she calls him “creepy”-and the first baby steps in overcoming those feelings-Kim’s own “journey of 10 miles”.

In “Motor Ed” we see Kim try to be considerate of someone disabled-not socially, but physically-and just blowing it completely.

Kim treads on delicate ground. Handled a little differently, she might have come off as patronizing, and Larry would’ve reverted to being defensive and hostile.

It is a touchy area. I myself have tried what she tried-and it was disastrous. I didn’t fare as well as Kim did with Felix. The other person accused me of being just as bad as the insensitive onlookers. In retrospect, I would’ve been smarter to not even bring the subject up.

Our fellow fan author observes that Kim doesn’t quite sound like herself-but I atribute it to her trying to sound like a drama queen-like someone from Agony County-really laying it on thick.

I would call this a “layered” story. Very subtle. And Larry is rightly described as sinister-not malicious-just sly and mildly wicked.

I envision the KP community as encompassing a cross section of all societal types-geeks, romantics, martial arts enthusiats, political enthusiasts, people of faith, students of human behavior, sports fans- viewers of every stripe-simply because the show has such a broad apeal-like Star Trek once had. And they can talk to each other in the forum of the show-learning to rise above the barriers and relate decently and courtiesly to each other-like Kim and Larry.

Larry stole the show in this short story. While Kim didn't always sound quite like Kim, I could hear Larry when I read his lines.

"Next?" indeed!

That is absolutely hilarious. Brilliant little vignette and faved forthwith.

Always a pleasure to see the mature, self-aware Kim that she finally became over the course of the series. Hope when Charlotte gets word of Larry's "cruelty" this doesn't turn into an O Henry moment!

Anyway, nice job on a truly original story idea here.

Both parties played their roles to perfection and the result was a glorious confusion that will sear itself in the memories of all that witnessed it! Well done Kim and Larry an about face of epic proportions! Kim can be as wicked as Shego when she tries.
