The boys don't want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they just get the rotten apples from the ground that aren't as good, but easy. So the apples at the top think something is wrong with them, when in reality, they're amazing. They just have to wait for the right boy to come along, the one who's brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree. FUN REFLECTIONS ON LIFE! 1. Never raise your hands to your kids. 2. Proceed with caution...) xOxOxOx *Super terrible spellings and grammars - I say super because I know that mistakes can (does) happen. I highly doubt that anyone's perfect. Some, perhaps are just near that 'level'. Well, it should be obvious why I hate those two things. I mean really, who likes reading a story that you thought/know is in English but can't understand it?! I've come across loads of stories that made me stop while reading, eyes twitching, head pounding and thinking to myself, "Why? Why?! Did a five years old child type this up or something?!" It's such a waste too because many of those stories do have good plot. Le sigh. Of course, this doesn't mean that I think my stories are superb or anything like that. My grammars, spellings and punctuation usage probably sucks too. The thing is though, I do try to re-read my story (chapter) at least twice before publishing it. Spell check is also my bestfriend when it comes to writing. I suggest to those people to either use one, or get a beta reader. Just saying. *Love triangles and Harems/reverse Harem - I just truly, vehemently hate them. I avoid these types of stories like the plague. Period. *Mary-Sues, Super OOCs and OCs I'll break this down a bit label by label. About Mary-Sues, this one should be a given, right? Surely no one can hate me for hating Mary-Sues, right? (I hope). It really annoys me when you get that one (we're lucky if there's only even one) character that's more talented, more good looking, stronger, more desirable and pretty much a better character than the supposed main character of the story. What. The. Heck? I put Mary-Sues, Super OOCs and OCs together because here in my rant, they all tie in together. Usually, when you get an OC, they're a flipping Mary-Sue (Surprised? Yeah, right). Seriously though, why do loads of FF writers do that? Is that character really necessary for the story? I suppose I can understand it a bit if the story's not AU and a character is necessary to serve as a plot device (only a bit though). If the story is AU though on the other hand... really? You couldn't find an actual character from the canon to serve the same purpose? Really? Sometimes, it makes me wonder if those Mary-Sue OCs are the actual writers themselves written on their own stories because they want to be part of it and so, leveled themselves (the OC) up to 'God-mode'. That's just my mere speculation though. And about M-Ss, I don't only dislike/hate them when they're OCs, that'll be unfair if that was the case. Of course I also hate it when canon characters become M-Ss. This in fact, now leads us to Super OOCs. The faq? I actually have quite a high tolerance for OOC-ness. I even do that too on my own stories honestly speaking. It becomes an issue for me when I get a complete switch in personality. It's like, 'Whoa! Am I on the right fandom? Am I reading the right story?'. I find this a bit harder to explain so I'll use examples. Let's use 'Tsuna' from 'Katekyo Hitman Reborn' shall we? I won't explain his actual personality so if you know who he is, that's good. If you don't... err, sorry? Anyway, I usually hate stories where he's portrayed as some BAMF. Are you for real? The story's not even AU or set in a parallel universe! Am I really reading aboun the same character? If it was set maybe TYL in the future then I can understand but if it's anything aside from that, even if it is AU, it's just like any other OC but given the same name and appearance as Tsuna. That character in my opinion is a lie. Of course it's not a crime to do that but I do feel as if I was lied to when I read a story expecting Tsuna to be the main character and then I get someone completely different. I tend to drop those stories like it's hot. I also hate it when the character(s) become too girly. I'll leave the explanation (ranting, lol) below though. :) My suggestion? If you really must have those three aspects (or any of those) in your story, please at least warn the readers so they don't have to suffer through the story. Besides, it'll probably be a good way of avoiding flames or haters. *Genderbending This is actually my biggest 'pet peeve'. I HATE GENDER BENDING. I loathe stories like this with a passion. Warning, I'm now going to type in a completely Yaoi fangirl biased way of thinking so if you don't like that, save yourself from the agony. Really. Move on. Oh, and I'm still using Tsuna as my example since this sacrilege seems to be happening a lot more to him. Poor guy. Authoress, Author, whatever you are, are you sure you like Yaoi? You do know what that is right? It's BL, aka Boy's Love, Boy x Boy, Gay Guys Loving, Homosexuality. So then, pray tell, why am I seeing 18xFem!27, 69xFem!27, GxFem!27, RxFem!27 etc? Last time I checked, a girl and a guy being in love isn't part of Yaoi. That's Heterosexuality right? If you really liked BL, then why turn the Uke into a girl? Are you sure that you're a fan of the pairing at all? I understand that some of the genderbent characters are rather quite feminine but that doesn't really make it completely fair to turn them into a girl, does it? I swear, genderbending is like a fad at the moment or something. Whenever I browse at Tsuna-centered stories, if there's let's say, 20 stories per page, maybe around 10 will be Fem!Tsuna, 5 will be SuperOOCTsuna and the other 5 will be great/'normal' stories. The figures are depressing. By the way, I suck at maths so don't take that statistics to heart. Like I said above (M-Ss, OCs and Super OOCs corner), I will now also rant about super 'girly-fied' boys. Tsuna acting 'super moe moe kawaii-desu' is pretty much genderbending him already. I know that Tsuna's not really the most 'manliest' of guys most of the time but I don't think even he's that girly ex. "Kyaa! Hibari-san, don't leave me, onegai? I'm scared of being by myself. *insert teary eyes, adorable pout, flowers, rainbows and glitters in the BG and Tsuna clinging on Hibari's arm." If the story is a crack fic, I actually don't mind Tsuna being super OOC. I catually find them mostly funny. But if it's not... Well, I just leave. I know that I can't stop writers from destroying our Uke's last remaining pride as a guy. And of course, I also know that i have no right to stop them anyways so just please, like I said above, add a warning. Please. No one likes nasty surprises. *False advertising -Okay, so it's not really false advertising or something extreme. By this, I mean like ex, in the summary and maybe even on the character option-thingy, it talks about Kanda and Allen and then the genre-thingy also shows romance. It's quite normal to assume that the story will be based on those two right? And that most definitely, it'll be Yullen aka KandaxAllen. So you get me (or any other Yullen fan) who liked the blurb clicking on the story. What do I (we) see after reading a chapter or even more? Lo' and behold! KandaxOC, AllenxOC! =_='. Once again, please put warnings. Better yet, write that down with the summary. Le sigh.
Anyways, that concludes my Rant corner. I apologize if I insulted or offended anyone with anything (or everything) that I wrote. I'm just reminding you now that those are all just my own opinion. Everyone is free to have their own. I know that many don't agree with me on those matters since there are hundreds, maybe even thousands of stories around that have them. Again, I apologize if I hurt anyone's feelings. The reason why i added this corner on to my profile? ...I was bored. :P Have a good day everyone!
