Author has written 42 stories for Final Fantasy VII, Valkyrie Profile, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy X, Rurouni Kenshin, Final Fantasy IX, Star Ocean, Xenosaga, Enzai: Falsely Accused, Batman Begins/Dark Knight, Black Magician Trilogy, Forgotten Realms, Toward the Terra/地球へ…, and Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet/翠星のガルガンティア. Here's some info about me: Age: I'm most likely older than you. But I've kept my interest in M&A, RPG and fanfiction despite the years flying by. Thankfully so! Nationality: Polish. English's not my first language, so if you see a truly jarring mistake or two, kindly let me know. Main fields of interest outside of fanfiction: social and clinical psychology, linguistics, geography, biology. Sports: not my cup of tea, though I really enjoy walking in the mountains and cycling in the countryside. I love being close to nature. Favorite pop culture tropes, for those of you who are also fans of TV Tropes: Anti-Hero, Anti-Villain, Obfuscating Stupidity (love this one!), Iron Woobie, Tin Man, Crapsack World, Gray and Gray Morality, Pet the Dog, among other things. Motifs of revenge and betrayal, especially when it comes to friendships. Politics and power struggles; well-intentioned people in charge who struggle with hard moral choices and end up having to act ruthless. Cyberpunk and evil corporations. Human experimentation. Emotional hurt, manipulation and the resulting angst. Dysfunctional parent-child relationships. Strong brotherly bonds. Absurd and grotesque. Sci-fi and fantasy settings. And the list goes on. When I'm into a certain fandom, it usually means I'm drawn in by some interesting character from that fandom. A "cool" show, game or book with a fairly good plot won't stay with me for long unless it has interesting characters as well, but a fascinating character alone can get me hooked despite the rest of the show etc. being not so good, silly, underdeveloped or downright boring. I'm not into romance fics all that much, and not very picky/discriminating when it comes to parings; I just prefer good ol' T-rated "gen" or non-romantic smut ninety percent of the time. Still: reading about difficult, tense, strained or even heartbreakingly cute interpersonal relationships - be them romantic or platonic - makes my day. Unless it's pure parody, crack or smut, where everyone can act wild and it's often funny or hot, respectively, I'm usually attached to the concept of "proper", canon-compliant, preferably in-depth characterization. Since I've come to adore a specific character just the way they are in canon, I'm not interested in - and sometimes even put off by - turning said character into a flat plot-device or the author's inaccurate, off the mark carbon copy. Like, if I were into Star Wars' Kylo Ren or something, I'd want to read/write fics about THE Kylo Ren, the "true" one, not some random dude who only wears Kylo Ren's face, but acts like Kylo Ren never would under given circumstances. "Circumstances" being another keyword here. I've got nothing against characters doing stuff they never did in canon if the story explains their motives and behavioral change sufficiently. So, back to the lists. Perhaps you can find some common interest here. :) Favorite M&A fandoms: Rurouni Kenshin (with a special nod to RK: Tsuiokuhen), Atasuki no Yona, Toward the Terra, Gankutsuou, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist (both series), Ouran High School Host Club, Darker Than Black, Samurai Champloo, Kaiketsu Zoro, Grave of the Fireflies. Favorite games: I enjoy both Eastern and Western RPGs, but fandom-wise, I'm only (yet deeply) into jRPGs. This shouldn't come off as a surprise, seeing that Western RPGs are often more character- and story-focused than the Western ones, which give the player less character-on-character interaction and more gameplay-oriented independence. My favorite games/series are those I used to write fics for: Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean, Xenosaga, Final Fantasy. But I also enjoyed titles such as The Witcher, Might & Magic (not to be mistaken with Heroes of Might & Magic, though I love these, too), Tales of..., Shadow Hearts, Resonance of Fate, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale and so on. I've got two favorite characters at the moment: Noctis Lucis Caelum from FFXV and Soo-Won from Akatsuki No Yona. Noct really plays "the tragic Chosen One" trope RIGHT. He's cool as hell, yet also awkward, relatable, with a great burden on his shoulders... And fandom-wise, he's outstandingly flexible! Fits every pairing, every setting, every scenario. Soo-Won, on the other hand, is the pure embodiment of my favorite tropes. A humble, gentle, well-meaning person who nevertheless harms people and does pretty inexcusable things to fulfill a greater goal - and how misguided that goal might be is up to debate, really. Pretends to be a total airhead, so no one takes him seriously... until they realize he's a badass mastermind who's already beaten them. He understands what politics stand for. And he suffers deeply on a personal level, I think, despite hardly ever showing his true emotions. My other favorites include: Keith Anyan, Yato, Hei, Squall Leonhart, Sephiroth, Seymour Guado, Kuja, Balthier, Kenshin Himura, Severus Snape, Edward Elric, Albel Nox, Gaignun Kukai Jr./Rubedo, Bruce Wayne, Edmond Dantes, Lenneth Valkyrie... I'm sure I missed a few names. If you're feeling chatty and are into one of the things/charas listed above, I'd gladly hear from you. :) Other than that, to whomever reads this: I keep my thumbs crossed for your stories. Keep working on whatever it is that you want to write, in the best way you can! |
