Author has written 3 stories for Stand. I am a 35 yr old mom to 4, an admittedly frustrated poet, but decidedly not a housewife. I have been a student (& still am) in history, mythology, literature & psychology. I am a Leo, so please be forgiving if I tend toward purple prose. Having shrugged off an adolescent infatuation with Sylvia Plath, along with several wedding and/or engagement rings, I now turn to my early ideals, those rooted in romance which can transcend the physical limitations of reality, in fact conquering death, disability, even the barriers between worlds! So of course I now turn to the multiverse of the fanfic community, where I have finally realized that I AM NOT ALONE! Not only are there a few more, but there are thousands upon thousands of frustrated idealists and closet romantics just like me . . . unafraid to post their most fevered, inchoate desires for all posterity to find in the blissful, hyperbolic light of the internets. Some of my favorite books: I love most things Stephen King, Tom Robbins, Douglas Adams, Kurt Vonnegut, Larry McMurtry, Henry Miller, Bret Easton Ellis. Also: Joseph Campbell & William Blake. The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley The Thornbirds by Colleen McCullough Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel The Hyde Effect & Shapes by Steve Vance (I can't understand why these great page turners have not been made into movies, since virtually every other vat of literary drivel - think Twilight series - has been.) I'm a sucker for Gone With the Wind. And many many more. Movies I enjoy are Apocalypse Now, Badlands, Boys Don't Cry, My Own Private Idaho, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, 500 Days of Summer, Hesher, Brokeback Mountain, Paris Texas, Roadside Prophets, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Big Lebowski, Star Wars (IV, V, VI), Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Harry Potter, The Lost Boys, Gone With the Wind (of course), Franco Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet (the only version worth the film it's printed on). For laughs I do like Kevin Smith movies, Harold & Kumar, Bill & Ted, and sometimes enjoy South Park, The Simpsons, or even Family Guy. I kind of like the idea of House, in syndication, but I don't really watch tv anymore. If I can't find it online, I don't bother. I do like HuluPlus though. And YouTube. Musically, I go through phases. In the '90's I liked angst-rock as much as anybody. Right now, I can't stand most of what was produced post 1979. I like early Springsteen, the Stones, Flying Burrito Bros. (I think I could have been in love with Gram Parsons, though he died quite awhile before I was born), GP & Emmylou Harris, Procol Harum, Gordon Lightfoot, Leonard Cohen, Simon and Garfunkel, Dylan, The Doors, Janis, a lot of one hit oldies, Neil Diamond, Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, etc. I think the only newer music I really respect might be Manic Street Preachers. Oh, and I'm still a sucker for Tiffany and Debbie Gibson (to a lesser degree), and some of the big hair ballads of the '80's - like Air Supply, REO, or the love theme from The Karate Kid. You know it. |
