One-shot. Post 11x22. Meredith sits on her porch after Derek's funeral, alone with a dark home looming behind her. Addison pulls up and the two women share a few moments of unity in their pain. Meredith runs through memories of Derek in her head while she tries to come to terms with her husband's death and his ex-wife being one of the few who understands the loss.

Two stories divided: one follows Meredith at 16 years old in 2008 and the other follows Derek at 25 years old in 2014. One story follows first love and the other follows the aftermath of this love falling apart. One story is hopeful, the other desperate. In the end, the worlds collide and the stories fold together.

A Christmas one-shot. After a weekend spent hiking in the cold woods with their friends, Meredith and Derek spend their last night along the mountain lake keeping one another warm.
