Author has written 5 stories for A song of Ice and Fire, Fallout, and Elder Scroll series. Username: Alternative NonFiction Sex: Male Age: 25 I used spend lots of time on Reddit, and my adventures got me banned from a particular sub whose name I shall not give here (hint, its a clear finalist for most annoying subreddit), for trying to debunk a trending conspiracy theory. For defiling their natural habitat with reality, I got the banhammer. Since I was kind of drunk at the time, this username popped to mind. Many of you fine folks have asked about my writing style, so here are some key points for me to talk about... Morality: I try to avoid too many instances of black and white morality. The environments in which my fics are written are often saturated with moral ambiguity, and out of that comes individuals whose moral compass points differently (or sometimes doesn't really work). That being said, my favorite characters to write are not ideal role models. Flashforwards/flashbacks: My flashfowards try not to be too obvious about the future, and often help me solidify plot points that i'm not always sure about. They often rely on extensive use of visual clues (see Easter Eggs) to help tell the story. Flashbacks on the other hand, are much more direct, and often set the theme for the arc they complement. OCs: I add them where needed, but generally avoid making them love interests. They generally have names that fit their environment (rather than the cesspools of unique trailer trash baby names). Above all, I try not create Mary Sues / Gary Stus. Naming conventions: On a slightly related subject, I try to put lots of thought into names. Whether its a title or a character's name, I try my best to give it true meaning. Easter Eggs: I am very big on Easter eggs. To me, they are a way of rewarding superfans, as well as those who have paid attention to the story (as opposed to skimmed that is). Songs/Poems: Songs incorporated into a story, are already part of the series, or are rewritten to make for relevance. If it is written word for word, I will cite the author and title of the song and/or poem. If it is modified (heavily) I will most likely not cite the source unless someone asks. Outside research: For those of you who have read any of my Bethesda derived material (Fallout in particular), I cannot overstate the importance of independent research. Three things got me into the Fallout fandom; music, incisive commentary on society as we know it, and lastly the detailed alternate realities. |
