1. All ages are in human years; in other words, their ages are like ours, not in the "15 cat years to one human year" form.
2. All characters are portrayed as anthros (actors with permanent costumes) except in the case of humans, who see and interact with them as ordinary housecats.
3. The Jellicles' social rules are much the same as ours; thus, there is no sibling marriage or other such things that would be acceptable to ordinary cats but not to people.
4. The majority of the Jellicles live at the Junkyard year-round. There are a few who have another home with a human family.
