August 15, 1987

Dressed in his tux, Lee walked down the hall from the boys' room to the room he now shared with his wife and lightly tapped on the door. It was opened by Francine who gave him a shove down the hall with a scolding, "Oh no you don't. Don't you know it's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding?"

"Oh, come on, Francine, don't tell me you really believe in all that crazy superstition. It's bad enough that she kicked me out of the house last night for the same reason and made me spend the night in a hotel. Besides, with all we've been through, how much more bad luck could we have?"

She shot him a withering look. "Do you really want to put that theory to the test?"

"Well, I wasn't coming to see Amanda anyway. I'm going to have the rest of my life to be with her." He couldn't help the giddy smile that crossed his face at that thought. "I wanted to talk to you before this whole thing gets going."

"Me? About what?"

"Mainly to thank you...you know, for always being there, even when you didn't approve."

She let out a sigh and shook her head. "You never did quite get it through your Scarecrow brain, did you? It was never that I didn't approve. I just knew how much she hurt you in the past. When she first started at the Agency, I could see it every time you were together. I didn't want to see you hurt like that again. I wasn't sure you could handle another big heartbreak, but seeing you two together now...I think you're finally getting it right. That's why when Amanda asked me to be her maid of honor, I jumped at the chance to support you and her." She then grinned and indicated her dress. "I just thank God she let me pick my own gown."

Lee laughed. "Still, thank you and for going to bat for us when the office gossip hounds were going crazy. It means a lot to both of us."

She poked him in the chest and challengingly said, "Well, you'd just better not screw this up now that you've finally got her where you want her. She's my friend now too and if you even think of breaking her heart, you'd just better remember how good I am at hand-to-hand."

"Oh, I know better than to cross you," he fired back.

"I think we all know that," Billy chimed in from behind him. He clapped Lee on the shoulder. "It's just about that time," he reminded his friend. "You nervous?"

He smiled and shook his head. "Not a bit."

A short while later, Lee beamed as he locked eyes with his bride as she walked toward him on Joe's arm. Seeing her in the same dress she'd worn the first time they'd exchanged vows made him realize why she'd insisted on them spending the night apart and holding strictly to the tradition of not seeing her before the wedding. It was a perfect culmination of all they'd been through as was this wedding itself. While he'd initially wanted a big wedding when they first got engaged, he couldn't help thinking how much more for fitting it was for them to publicly say their vows in the gazebo where they'd spent so many hours hiding. He felt it was symbol of shedding all the hurts and secrets of the past.

When they reached the gazebo, Joe gave Amanda a quick kiss on the cheek and she silently mouthed, "Thank you," as she reached for Lee's outstretched arm and they turned to face the minister together while Joe stepped away to sit next to Carrie and drape an arm around her.

Much like their first wedding, the ceremony itself was short and sweet, a simple recitation of the vows they'd already exchanged two years ago and again six months ago, but holding much more meaning for both of them now that they could openly share their happiness with their loved ones; Billy grinning broadly, Francine looking on with a glowing smile, while Dotty sniffled lightly in the background and the boys stood proudly by their sides. His eyes were alight with happiness when he slipped her wedding band onto her finger one final time, secure in the knowledge that this time, it was going to stay there forever. He saw the same glowing look in her eyes when she did the same with his. Neither could help the huge grins planted across their faces just before they shared a long, lingering first kiss, the backyard where they'd spent so much time hiding their secrets erupting into a loud chorus of cheers from their friends and family. "No more secrets," he whispered into her ear as they turned to face their guests as Phillip and Jamie moved to flank them.

They stepped out of the gazebo arm in arm, greeting each individual to thank them. Dotty was the first to greet them with a tight hug and gushed in her normal way, "Oh, I'm so happy for you! And you, Amanda, you look so beautiful! And, Lee, you'd darn well better make sure you take good care of my little girl!"

"I will. I promise." He leaned into kiss her on the cheek before they moved on.

"Well, all I can say is it's about time," Emily lightly teased as she hugged them both.

They laughed as they hugged her back and Lee nodded in agreement. "You're not wrong there."

Harry and Christina were next. "Lee, my boy, congratulations," he cheered as he shook his hand and then with a meaningful glance at Christina, added off Emily's comment, "One thing I've learned is that it's never too late when you find the right one."

"No, it's not," Amanda chimed in with a smile at them.

Lee hesitated for a moment before approaching his uncle, unsure if he'd congratulate them or scold them for waiting so long. "Come on," Amanda nudged him in the Colonel's direction.

To his surprise, Robert placed a firm hand on Lee's shoulder, and with a warm smile simply said, "I'm proud of you, Son." He gave a small nod to the boys. "And not just for this. You're already a better father than I ever was."

Lee smiled proudly and responded with a slight shrug. "Nah, you weren't so bad."

"Thank you, Bob," Amanda chimed in as she moved to hug him.

"No, thank you, Amanda." He kissed her on the cheek. "Thank you for keeping this scoundrel in line and making him do right by you."

"Oh, no, I think you've got that backward. I was the one who needed to do right by him."

"No, Amanda," Lee contradicted her as he reflected for a moment of all the hurts they'd caused each other over the years that had led them to this day and linked his fingers with hers. "We needed to do right by each other."

"Either way, I'm happy to see it," Bob stated firmly. "Congratulations to you both.

Dr. Smyth stepped up to greet them with a teasing grin. "I echo your uncle's thoughts. I just wish I'd had an easier time nudging the cat out of the bag."

"Well, it certainly wasn't for lack of trying," Lee laughed.

"If I'd known it would be as easy as planting little insects to catch you in the act, I'd have done it months ago," he teased.

Amanda flushed at that thought as Lee said, "Well, it's probably better that you didn't. You might have heard more than you wanted to."

"What makes you think I didn't? Those things do get reported to me, you know."

"Ugh!" Amanda groaned as her face turned red.

Smyth shook his head. "No need for alarm, Mrs. Stetson. As soon as I heard the buzzing of the swarm, I confiscated them and only listened to what I needed to."

"Oh, good." Amanda breathed a sigh of relief. "But I have to ask...why have you done all that other stuff for us?"

"My job is secrets," he explained. "Keeping them, that is...and making sure they're kept by others in my charge. How else am I supposed to lead if not by setting the example?"

"Okay, but then why were you so determined to get our marriage out in the open? If what you say is true, that doesn't quite make sense."

All joking manner gone, he answered seriously, "Because some secrets aren't meant to be kept. I read all the reports of your escapades over the years, every single one of them. I may have the reputation that I don't care about the people who report to me, but on the contrary, I do. I've been doing this for more years than I can count on all my little piggies combined and I've seen partnerships come and go; I've seen them work, but more often I've seen them fail. In all my years, I've never seen one quite as unique as yours. The two of you complement one another like no pair of partners I've ever seen." He nodded to Amanda, "You're the reason to his rhyme, the sound to his fury and the brains to his brawn. If you'd kept your secret for much longer, you'd have been doomed to follow the same path as so many before you and our Scarecrow would have once again begun wandering down the brick road alone, throwing himself headlong into the path of wicked witches and flying monkeys. I couldn't have that now, could I? Not when the two of you together have the highest case closure rate in the Agency's history."

"Oh, so it was all in your own self-interest," Lee chided him.

"I never denied being devious," Smyth replied with another grin. "Enjoy the condo. I'm sure I'm going to enjoy that Chateau Margaux." Without another word, he walked away leaving the couple laughing and shaking their heads as they moved on.

Once they'd finished greeting all their guests, the celebration really began with eating, toasting, drinking and finally, a moment for the couple themselves as they moved to the patio that had been set up as a makeshift dance floor.

They moved into each other's arms and Lee beamed at his bride as they began to sway to the music together. "I'm glad we did this. This is one of those things we missed out on at our first wedding. We didn't get that first dance six months ago."

"Oh, I don't know," she mused. "I seem to remember our whole relationship beginning with a dance."

"Hmm...I remember. You were wearing that incredibly sexy halter top that was driving me crazy." He leaned in to lightly nuzzle her neck.

She let out a giggle and teased, "Mmm...is that all it was? The sexy top? Is that why you spent the rest of the night making love to me? I enticed you with that top?"

He pulled back to gaze into her eyes. "Well, it certainly didn't hurt," he remarked with an impish grin. "But, no...you didn't need any sexy outfits to be entice me. It was just who you are."

"Hmm...you know, Mother's going to be awfully disappointed to hear that since we spent so much time shopping for things I could wear for you."

"Oh, I'm not saying I'd turn those things down," he countered. "But they're not necessary for me to love you or to want you." He nodded to her dress and lightly fingered the gauzy veil. "Like this...you wearing this...it just reminds me of how many times we've been so close to being a real happily married couple and...it's..." His voice became choked with emotion as he finished with, "It's perfect." He lightly brushed her lips against his and seeing a hint of mischief in her eyes added a curious "What?"

"As perfect as the halter?" she teased.

He couldn't help laughing. "Sexy outfit aside, you know what really made that night so perfect? You...you and me, finally getting your attention, getting you to notice me the way I noticed you. Of course, knowing that we made a baby that night..." He nodded in Phillip's direction. "It just makes the memories of that night that much sweeter...and sexier."

"Speaking of which, now that we've got the wedding part out of the way, does that mean you're ready to try to make another one?" she questioned with a hopeful look in her eyes.

"You read my mind." He kissed her softly once more and pulled her closer. When they ended their kiss, he added, "But that will have to wait until we're alone tonight."

"Of course," she nodded. "I'm just glad we decided to take one night for ourselves before we head off to Orlando with the boys."

"And I'm glad they understood the need for us to have one night without them," he added.

"Yeah, I just hope they're as understanding when we break the news to them that we're going to need a bigger house."

"I don't know. They seem pretty excited about Joe and Carrie having a baby, especially Jamie since he's going to be a big brother." He gestured with his head to the boys chatting animatedly with their stepmother who was now proudly showing off her small baby bump.

"I guess we'll just have to wait and see how that conversation goes."

"Well, we'll figure it out. You know on the other part, the baby-making part, I was thinking how you said it might take awhile..." Leaning back in toward her, he crooned low in her ear. "That's just one more thing we'll have to keep trying until we get it right."

"Can't wait," she whispered as his voice sent shivers of anticipation up her spine, but she tamped down that thought and teased, "Although, since you said I don't need sexy outfits to entice you, maybe we don't really need to have tonight to ourselves. Maybe we should just stay home to make sure that the boys are getting their packing done like they're supposed to."

"Amanda, I never said I'd turn down the sexy outfits." He shot her a mock-outraged look.

"Well, we don't really need them for making a baby though, do we?" She smiled widened and Lee swore he saw a glimmer of something else in her eyes that he couldn't quite place, but then it was gone as she shifted gears and that mischievous glint was back. "I mean, really whatever I wear for you I wouldn't be wearing for long anyway, right?"

"Well, that's very true, but still, it's like you said on our first wedding night...you went to all the trouble to pick stuff out for me, so why shouldn't you wear it?"

"You got me there," she let out an overly dramatic sigh and added, "I guess I'll just have to live up to my own words, huh?"

"You'd better...all of them, Mrs. Stetson."

"You too, Mr. Stetson...for better or for worse."

"We've already had more than our fair share or worse, so things can only get better from here.

"You bet they can."

Just like that, the little look was back on her face, but before he could try to discern its meaning, the song ended.

They reluctantly parted with one last sweet kiss and Lee turned to reach for his mother-in-law's hand to lead her out to the dance floor. "Thank you," he said sincerely. "For all of this."

"You just make sure it was worth all the time and effort I put into this, Young Man," she lightly scolded. "I meant what I said earlier. You'd better take good care of my daughter. She's had more than enough heartbreak to last her a lifetime."

"I will," he promised. "Amanda...the boys...this family...they're everything to me and I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure I never hurt any of them again."

"I hope you will. I know, you've loved Amanda for fifteen years. I just want to make sure that now that you've got her, you don't ever take her for granted. She may seem strong on the surface, but underneath, there are parts of her that are still fragile."

"Yeah, I know. Same here, but you know something? That's one of the things that makes us such good partners at work. We look out for each other and I have no doubt that we're going to keep doing that, no matter whether it's on the job or at home." He smiled warmly at that thought. "Home," he repeated. "Such a nice thought. I want to thank you for making me so welcome in yours...and in your family."

"Oh, Lee, Darling, you've always been family, even during all those years that you and Amanda spent fighting your feelings for each other. After all, you've always been the father of my grandson. I'm just so happy that you two finally settled down long enough to see that."

"I seem to remember a very wise woman once saying something very similar to me...about how family means everything. Let's see..." He pretended for a moment that he was trying to remember. "...that was about 1977, wasn't it?"

"Yes, I remember," she replied, a mix of fondness and sadness in her tone. "It was at Carl's funeral when you were kind enough to pay your respects."

"He earned it. He was a good man and he tried to get me on the right path when it came to Amanda."

"He did the same with her," Dotty informed him. "I don't know if she ever told you, but shortly before he died, he told her that if she truly loved you, she should cut Joe loose, let him be free to be happy and let herself be free to truly love you. It's just a shame he's not here to see his dying wish come true."

"I know. For what it's worth, I'm sorry too. You were right when you said in the hospital when he was undergoing his surgery that I should have fought harder for her, but I didn't listen. When she came to me the night of the funeral looking for...I don't know...comfort, companionship...I never was quite sure what she was looking for that night, but I do know that I made a big mistake in not at least trying to give her what she wanted. We could have had a lot more years together."

"But the important thing is that you're together now and you've both learned from all those mistakes of the past."

"We have. We really have," he agreed. He nodded to where Amanda was dancing with Phillip. "And especially about keeping secrets...well, except for those we have to keep for work."

Dotty's gaze followed his and then she looked back to Lee, "Well, at least there's one thing I know for sure. If you ever get my daughter pregnant again, that child will never miss out on anything with his father." She grinned slyly at him. "Any chance of that happening?"

"Hmm...could be," he answered vaguely. He and Amanda had agreed not to let anyone in on their future baby-making plans until they knew it was a sure thing. "We could talk about it."

"Well, if you want another child, you'd better do more than talk and you better not waste any time," she teased. "You've wasted enough time already and neither of you is getting any younger."

"I'll keep that in mind." He paused for a beat. "I'm just sorry you're not going on this trip with us. Are you sure we can't talk you into changing your mind? There's plenty of room in the condo for you."

She shook her head. "Oh no, Lee. You and Amanda need some time with just the children without me getting in the way."

"You wouldn't be in the way," he protested. "You're family too."

"Oh, I know and don't you forget it. You can't get rid of me that easily. I just think it's better to let you have your bonding time with the boys away from the stresses of everyday life. Besides..." She let out a little chuckle as she nodded to where Curt was waiting patiently for his turn to dance with her. "I have my own little vacation planned while you're away."

"Well, you just make that man take good care of you," he warned her in a lightly mocking tone.

"He will. He's a good man."

"That he is and he looks like he's getting a little antsy so I'd better quit hogging his best girl."

"Thank you, Lee," She kissed him on the cheek. "Thank you for making this family whole again."

The night progressed and Lee finally sank wearily into a chair while the ladies were preparing for the bouquet toss. When he glanced around and saw Francine edging away from the other women, he shouted to her, "Go on! Get in there! You're a single woman too."

"No thanks!" she fired back as she approached him. "You may be all hopped up on wedded bliss, but that's not for me. Besides, like you said, I'm single...too single. After what happened with Jonathan, I think I need to stay that way for awhile and be a lot more cautious about who I date."

"Hmmm...I don't know. Beaman got into the champagne so he just might ask you to run off with him again," he teased.

"Bite your tongue." She slugged him on the arm. "But who knows, right?"

"Go on," he urged.

"Fine. You win," she sighed dramatically as she joined the other single women while Lee laughed.

"Lee?" A small voice said by his side.

"What is it, Sport?" he inquired when he saw Jamie nervously standing there.

"Can I talk to you for a second?"

"Of course, anytime. What's on your mind?"

"Well, I was just talking to Grandma..."

"Oh boy," Lee muttered nearly inaudibly, but then pulled his stepson into his lap, put an arm around him and asked, "What about?'

"She got me thinking 'cause she was talking about how you've always kinda' been family because you're Phillip's dad."

"Yeah, she said the same thing to me."

"So that means that you and me...we've always been sorta' family too, right? I mean, even before you married Mom 'cause, you know, you've always been Phillip's dad, even before we knew it, and I've always been his brother."

"I guess that's true," Lee agreed.

Jamie smiled and continued, "That also means that when you saved me from that scary guy in the gym, you weren't just doing it because you were doing your job, but because we're family, right?"

"Absolutely, Kiddo! You may not have known me then, but I did know you and I loved you even then. I couldn't stand the thought of something happening to you."

"Wow! You mean, with all this crazy stuff, I finally figured something out and got it right?"

"You bet you did," Lee replied affectionately and hugged him. "But it's no less than I'd expect from you. You're a pretty sharp kid. So, are you excited about our trip? We leave tomorrow afternoon."

"Oh yeah. I can't wait! It'd be nice if we could go sooner, but I get that you and Mom need some time to...you know...do some married people stuff. In fact, I still kinda' don't understand why you want to take us on a trip with you and not just be alone for the whole thing."

"We're going to be married for a long, long time, so we'll have plenty of time to do all that..." He cleared his throat awkwardly. "Um...married people stuff, as you put it. The more important thing for us right now is to just be with you guys where we can relax and have some fun."

"But Dad and Carrie took a separate trip all by themselves," he argued. "I just don't want you guys to be mad that you didn't get that too...or maybe mad is the wrong word. You missed so much stuff with Phillip and with being married in secret, I don't wanna' think we made you miss anything else."

"That's very considerate of you, Jamie, but your mom and I talked about this and this is what we want. Besides, we'll have the nights to ourselves after you boys go to bed to just be married people, but we want to spend our days with you. That's part of being family, spending time together."

"Okay, if you're sure," Jamie replied skeptically.

"I'm sure. In fact, the family trip was my idea."

"It was?" The boy's eyes lit up.

"Sure was," he confirmed. "I have a lot of lost time to make up for with you boys and I want that to start right now. On that note, have you finished packing yet?"

"Almost," he replied.

"Then you'd better finish up since we're leaving tomorrow. And grab your brother and tell him to make sure his is done too."

"You got it."

Jamie scampered off in search of his brother just as Francine returned, bouquet in hand and a glower on her face as she saw Beaman approaching her with a drunken grin, "You're a dead man, Stetson." She shook her head. "Why did I listen to you instead of listening to my instincts?" She glanced at Amanda who was now walking toward them and said loud enough for her to hear, "I think your wife lobbed it at me on purpose."

"On purpose? Me? Now, why would I do a thing like that? I just...you know...tossed it and I don't think my aim was very good at all."

Francine rolled her eyes. "Spoken by the woman who coached Little League for years. I know just how good your aim is."

"Speaking of aim, look who decided to join us," Amanda nodded to Beaman who sidled up to Francine and draped an arm around her.

The blonde wriggled out from Beaman's sloppy embrace and said, "Let's talk, Efraim." She then pointed at finger at Lee and Amanda in turn. When you get back from your trip, you are both soooo dead."

"On that note," Lee began as he rose to reach for his wife's hand. "Now that things are winding down, we should start saying our goodbyes. We have a hotel reservation to keep and we don't wanna' be late checking in like last time and end up waiting for a room to be made up for us."

Amanda laughed as she recalled their actual wedding night and their shared impatience at the slowness of the housekeeper. "No, we wouldn't want that."

August 16, 1987

"Wow, this place is really nice," Amanda gushed as they entered the condo as the boys rushed past them.

"Well, what else would expect from Dr. Smyth?" he joked.

"Hey, this place is cool!" Phillip cheered. "Do we really get to each have our own room for the whole time instead of having to share?"

"Yes, you do," Lee answered with a smile.

"Well, don't get used to it," Jamie jeered. "We still have to go back to sharing when we get home, Bozo."

"Ugh. Don't remind me." Phillip turned to his parents and asked, "How come we can't get a bigger house like Dad and Carrie did?"

"Yeah," Jamie chimed in. "We don't have to share a room at their house anymore."

Lee and Amanda exchanged disbelievingly looks since they'd both been worried about how to broach the subject with the boys. Lee was the first to answer. "Ummm...well, I suppose that's something we could talk about, but for now, let's get settled in and get unpacked, huh?"

Once Lee and Amanda entered the master bedroom, and had set their luggage down, Amanda quickly closed the door behind them and with an excited smile on her face reached for her husband's hand. "Lee, the house thing...it's something we're going to have to talk about very soon."

"Oh, I know we are if we're trying to have a baby."

"Well, that's another thing..." Her smile grew as she took his hand and placed it on her abdomen. "We don't have to try anymore."

"What?" His eyes widened. "You...you're not...?"

She nodded. "I'm pregnant."

"You..." He held her face in his hands and kissed her soundly and then placed one hand back on her stomach. "You're really pregnant?"

"Yeah, I really am. It surprised me too. I found out Friday, but since you were so insistent on waiting until after the wedding to even start trying, I...well, I wanted to wait to tell you...and it's still very early so I think we should wait a little while before we tell the boys."

"But how?" he questioned.

"You don't really need me to explain that to you, do you?"

He rolled his eyes. "You know that's not what I meant. I thought you were still taking your pill." A thought struck him then. "You...uh...you didn't stop taking it without telling me?"

"No, of course not," she insisted. "I wouldn't do that, not after secrets and lies were what kept us apart for so many years. No, I think it's just because we've been having so much sex lately. I mean, we had all last month without the boys around where we could really be free to...well, enjoy it without worrying about being interrupted or them overhearing something they shouldn't - although personally I'd like to think it was the weekend of our fifteen-year reunion at UVA that first week in July and..."

"Oh, you mean that weekend when you dragged me off to your den like a cavewoman when Easy Rider Barbie hit on me, even after we told her we're married now?" he teased.

She laughed heartily and replied, "Did you see the green look on her face? I thought she was going to pass out!"

He joined in her laughter. "Well, you won't hear me complaining that I got to spend so much time in bed with my beautiful wife," he teased. "I think we spent more time in our room that weekend than we did catching up with our friends. It was nice though that you did finally get to catch up with your old gal pal, Kitty, especially since I'm the one who stopped it from happening the last time you made plans with her."

"I remember," she smiled fondly and rested her hands on his chest. "You dragged me off and forced me to marry you and Kitty and I never did make new plans to get together." She lightly brushed her lips against his. "But I wouldn't change it. If it came down to a choice of catching up with an old friend or marrying you, I'd choose you any day."

"Me too. I will always choose you," he replied warmly as a reminder that he never wanted to fight with her again about choosing their marriage or the Agency. "You know, I never did quite get how your little trio got together though. Kitty's so grounded and Barbie...well, you know how Barbie is...and you...well, you're somewhere in the middle...a little wild at times, but also practical when you need to be."

"Well, I think that's why it worked," Amanda explained. "Kitty was the one who always kept Barbie from going too wild, and Barbie pushed Kitty into stepping out of her comfort zone from time to time and there I was in the middle to be the voice of reason for both of them."

"Barbie though..." He shook his head and grimaced slightly. "She never did understand that she wasn't my type. I was never into the easy lay type...those women who just throw themselves at any man available."

"Not even when you had all those black books or all those available women throwing themselves at you?"

"Not even then. It was never about easy sex. It was about looking for...something...I don't even know what...maybe just a way to bury the pain." He grinned at her, his eyes dancing with mischief as he slid his hands to her waist, pulled her closer and teased, "Although, it seems to me that Kitty wasn't the only one Barbie pushed a little. I do seem to recall someone in college that I got into bed with me pretty easily. And didn't you tell me once that it was her sexy halter top you borrowed the night of the graduation party?"

"Oh, stop!" She playfully slapped at his chest. "I wasn't that easy."

"I don't know, one dance, a couple of drinks and you were perfectly willing to go up to my room with me and like you just said, we've been having a lot of sex lately, mostly initiated by you."

She shot him a mock-perturbed look. "Is that another complaint for your list?"

"Mm-mm," he murmured as he lightly nuzzled her neck. "I always did love an aggressive woman. That's one to go on the other list; that I don't have to beg for it like I hear some of the married guys at work complaining about."

"Speaking of our recent activities, that brings me right back to the point. Our little surprise. You asked how it happened, but if you remember, we stopped using condoms months ago and the pill is pretty effective, but it's not a hundred percent and-"

He kissed her softly cutting of her ramble before it could build up steam. "I don't even care how it happened. I'm just happy. We're having a baby," he gushed.

"Yeah, we are. I wanted to tell you last night, but then we got so wrapped up in...well, other things..."

"I get it."

"I know this is a little sooner than we planned, but I think it will work out nicely. Joe and Carrie's baby is due around Christmas and ours in April so that will give the boys a few months to adjust to have one new sibling before they have another one. Plus, my due date is almost a year from when everyone at the Agency found out about our marriage so that means you don't have to worry about what they think." She shook her head. "You know, it's funny. When Joe told me about Carrie, I laughed when he suggested that that the reason we'd come clean was because I was pregnant too and I joked about how crazy that would be if we were pregnant at the same time."

Lee laughed. "But our lives always have been crazy, haven't they? Why should that change now?" He moved his hands to her back and leaned into kiss her sweetly. The moment didn't last long though because they were soon interrupted by a knock on the door. They pulled apart.

"Some things never change," Lee joked.

"You know, sometimes, I wonder if they're spying on us and just waiting for a moment when we're close to interrupt," Amanda added with a laugh.

"Well, they're growing up around spies, so it wouldn't surprise me, especially since Jamie learned one of our big secrets by eavesdropping."

Lee moved to open the door to find both boys standing there.

"We're all unpacked," Jamie spoke up bouncing on his toes excitedly.

"Well, that was awfully quick," Amanda replied. "Are you sure you didn't just throw things in drawers instead of making sure they were neatly folded?"

"Aww, Mom," Phillip moaned. "Come on, we're on vacation."

Lee laughed. "He does have a point. Sometimes rules fly out the window when you're on vacation."

"Don't encourage them," she scolded her husband. She ruffled Phillip's hair and added, "Especially this one since he's already got your bad habit of throwing his things everywhere."

"We really just want to go to Disney...come on, pleeeasse," Jamie pleaded.

"I know you're excited, but it's a little late in the afternoon to get in a good day at Disney. It's almost dinnertime," Amanda replied. "Wouldn't it be better to start tomorrow when we can get a full day in so we can see more of it?"

The boys grumbled, but agreed with their mother's logic, then Lee chimed in. "For tonight, we thought we'd just settle in, get unpacked, have a nice dinner and unwind from the busy couple of days we've had. It's a lot of work getting ready for a wedding and I just bet you boys got tired after all that walking back and forth you did with your ushering duties."

"Yeah, that was pretty tiring," Phillip agreed. "But it was worth it to see you guys so happy. We can wait until tomorrow for Disney." He nudged his brother. "Right?"

"Right," Jamie agreed. "Waiting makes sense so we'll have all day."

"We're agreed then," Lee nodded. "Just let your mom and me get unpacked and we'll go get dinner." He gave them both a half-warning, half-teasing look. "And if I were you, I'd go straighten up whatever messes you made trying to get unpacked so fast before your mother has a chance to see it."

As the boys scampered off, they both laughed as they turned to their own unpacking. "Well, I'm glad our little spies have adapted to listening to you," Amanda said.

"Hmm...that reminds me."

"What?" she questioned.

"Well, I was just thinking. You remember years ago, that first case we worked together when I was suspended and irritated-"

"You mean, when you tried so hard to get rid of me?" she chimed in.

"Okay, yeah," He let out a sigh. "I was still so angry with you then, but that's not what I was thinking about. I was thinking about how you kept pushing me about what I'd been doing with my life...that whole 'no Mrs. spy'... thing."

"Oh, right. I...um...I kinda' hurt you when I said that, but I didn't mean it in the way you took it. I was...well, it was my clumsy way of trying to figure out if you were still single, if you still cared for me at all or if you'd moved on. I thought we'd moved past all that."

He reached for her hand to reassure her. "Oh, we have. I'm not still sore about that. I was thinking about it in a good way. Remember, how everyone at work was teasing you when the truth first came out and kept calling you Mrs. Scarecrow or Glinda?"

"Boy, am I glad that died down."

"Well, ever since then, I've been thinking about you asking me those questions in an entirely different way. Sure, I was pissed about it at first because I was just pissed at you in general, but now that I really think about it in the way you meant it, I get that you were looking to rebuild what we once had...or at least what we could've had." He released her hand and slid his hands to her waist. "What you said just now about the boys spying on us just reminded me of it. I'm so happy you didn't let me chase you away that day because now I do have my Mrs. Spy..." He kissed her softly. "...the two little spies down the hall..." He nodded in the direction of the hallway and then knelt in front of her to place a tender kiss to her abdomen. "And our little spy on the way."
