Author has written 10 stories for Pokémon, Ouran High School Host Club, Bleach, and My Hero Academia/僕のヒーローアカデミア. Hello everyone! Little Miss Firebright here, and thanks for visiting my profile! *Stories are currently cross posted to AO3 under 'LittleMissFirebright'* ~About the Author~ Likes and dislikes: Cherry soda and spicy chicken wings are my two favorite things. I love cats, and hate that I'm allergic so much that I pet them anyways and just live with the suffering. I love reading, and writing, and video games, climbing up giant cliffs, and, of course, vanquishing my enemies. I enjoy puns and Pokemon more than I should, and hate spearmint with a burning, irrational passion. If I could take over the world for the sole purpose of eradicating spearmint flavoring, I'd laugh while piles of spearmint burned in giant infernos around the globe. I'm also not fond of cold weather. Maybe the spearmint bonfires would help warm up the planet, two birds, one stone. :) Previous username: Kagotori. Changed because that was stupid. Gender and age, because apparently Fanfiction is like a Tinder profile: Female, mid-twenties, cute but only mostly sane. Let's be fair though, some girls on Tinder would slash your tires while wearing clown makeup, so it could be worse. Favorite color: Red. Not relevant in the slightest, but people stop asking once you hit your teens, and I demand this information be relayed to the public anyways. Writing Music of Choice: New Age Rock, such as Thousand Foot Krutch, Icon for Hire, Starset, and Fall Out Boy are some of my top picks. Anime instrumentals for mood specific scenes, because I'm a huge dork, and Skyrim instrumentals because I haven't wasted enough of my life listening to that music just yet. Tatsh and InnerPartySystem are less well known favorites as well. Favorite Mythical Creature to Ride while Conquering the World: Ah yes, another standard question. I choose the mighty fire breathing dragon, both so I can look amazing and have roasted marshmallows whenever I desire. Next question. ~o~ ~~ Nerd Poll! Which side do you favor? In most cases, I like both...but there can only be one which is superior, so let's begin! ~~ Star Wars vs Star Trek ~ Let's face it, the Force is way cooler than anything Star Trek has to offer. Plus lightsabers, a clear cut Light vs Dark narrative, and Darth Vader? All in all, I definitely prefer 'A long, long time ago' over 'Stardate 2259.55' On top of that, the fight scenes aren't even comparable, with incredible cinematic laser sword fights on one hand, and 'pew pew set phasers to boring' on the other. Both are pretty great overall, and had a few terrible movies/series mixed in with the good, but in the end my heart belongs in a galaxy far away instead of in the final frontier. Marvel vs DC ~ This one is tricky for a lot of reasons. Before Marvel was bought by Disney, their popularity was seriously fading, with a long string of mediocre movies and failed expectations burning in ashes around their one saving grace, the animated series and comics which kept them relevant. But with the money and power of Disney, and a long term movie extended universe plan, Marvel skyrocketed back to the top of the world, producing consistently top rate material for years, while DC tried to stick with darker toned movies which just couldn't compete against the complexity and fun of Marvel heroes. But while I love the new Marvel EU, I grew up a DC girl, with a long habit of watching Justice League and Teen Titans with my childhood friends. So even though Marvel has risen above the crowd, it just can't compete against good old fashioned childhood nostalgia for this fanfic author. Disney vs Dreamworks ~ This does not mean I don't like Dreamworks. They've made some great stuff, including two of my favorite franchises, "How to Train Your Dragon", and the incomparable "Megamind". But a few great hits just isn't enough to topple Disney's reign of mandatory fun over our world, or beat the inescapable magic which comes with the most popular brand in the world. Cartoons vs Anime ~ Anyone who has seen anime knows it's a cut above a full 90% of cartoons. We get better plotlines, character development, and world building, in exchange for putting up with a certain degree of fanservice and that one obnoxious pervert in every series. The art is phenomenal, it breaks away from American stereotypes, and isn't afraid to kill off main characters. Now if we could only ignore the creepy side of the fanbase, everything would be perfect... Final Fantasy vs Kingdom Hearts ~ The art style of Square Enix. That's it, that's the entire reason. Twilight vs Harry Potter ~ Oooh, a controversial one. Not because there's a real comparison, but because people hate when their vampires sparkle. I'll be honest here, I liked both. Twilight is a very personal book, with characters which resonate strongly with the reader, but it simply can't survive when subjected to intense scrutiny, and suffers as a result when people ridicule it. It's the kind of series which can only be 'felt emotionally', instead of taken at face value. Harry Potter is the winner here, however, due to JK Rowling's incredible skill with writing unique and well developed characters in a magical world every sane person wants to be a part of. It's just better! Than any other book series, probably! But as much as I love the internet jokes about Twilight, I HATE how people treat Stephanie Meyer. Poor girl, it was her first book, and she's really heartbroken over the backlash. Pokemon vs Yu-Gi-Oh AND Digimon ~ No contest, Pokemon was, and is better. The best thing about Yu-Gi-Oh is LittleKuriboh's abridged series, and Digimon stopped being relevant before Marvel got the funds for decent Hulk special effects. Supernatural vs Doctor Who ~ WooooooEEEEEooooooooo~ Doctor Who is the winner! As much as I enjoyed Supernatural, (I even got caught up at season 12. Yeah, I don't know how I did it either!) I will always like Doctor Who more. If I could only think of the reason... (*cough* David Tennant *cough*) Was it the fun storytelling? The heartbreaking but overall touching narrative which even made ME get emotionally invested in the characters? It could have been my favorite companion, Clara Oswin Oswald, or my hatred for Martha, or even the cycle of hate to like to love I go through with every incarnation of the Doctor. Maybe it's just because the English accents are glorious. No matter the reason, Doctor Who is another series which deserves it's place in the internet Hall of Fame which is my profile. Open World vs Linear Video Games ~ A difficult question I don't want to spend too much time answering. I play both, and enjoy both, but I've clearly spent more time in Open World vs Linear, making it the close winner. Writing vs Fantasizing about writing ~ Hahahah...hahahaha...I'm...I'm joking, I don't do this. Much. I write, I promise!!! Naruto vs Bleach and One Piece ~ I hate this question, because I love them all. I have too many reasons to list, but these three are the most popular anime for a reason. Each one is incredible and entertaining in their own ways, and deserve their fame. Naruto wins on most popularity lists, with a slight edge over Bleach, mainly due to the detailed and often heartbreaking backstories of the main cast, and many of the supporting characters. Bleach is my number two, because the fight scenes are glorious, and I prefer the art over the goofy One Piece style, but Naruto is the best for a reason. Now if only Kishimoto knew how to write a proper female character... Questions or arguments about my list? Just want to share your opinions? Send me a PM, and we can chat for a bit, or leave a confusingly irrelevant review on one of my stories, and I'll get back to you! ~o~ ~Other Questions~ Video Games? Is…is that a question? Do I like video games? Do I video tape people playing board games? This profile quiz has problems. I like Pokémon, Super Smash Brothers, Eternal Sonata (sans the weird ending, come on), and willingly let Skyrim consume my life and soul. I also enjoy dorky anime games like Naruto Ultimate Ninja, and even the badly dubbed Bleach: Shattered Sword game. (Was no one else available to voice the Arrancar villain? Seriously). Guitar Hero and DDR also make the list, and you can pry the badly reviewed Battle Network Megaman games from my cold dead hands. You like Pokémon. Do you play Pokémon Go? If by “play” you mean obsess over my glorious Team Valor Pokemon like Smeagle and the One Ring, than yes, I dabble a bit in my free time... Favorite Anime/Manga: Skip Beat is phenomenal, Death Note for the psychological horror, Douluo Dalu because daaannnngg, that author writes a Bleach length book every year! (The actual Manhua versions take longer. Also he’s getting 4 Hollywood live action movies starting in 2018, which rules). Other favorites in no order are: Naruto, Bleach, Code Geass (despite Kallen *fanservice* Kozuki), Spirited Away, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood (because the original was only good until we saw Brotherhood, let’s be fair), and the unrelated Full Metal Panic (Fumoffu was a blessing to mankind), Fairy Tail, KHR, Ouran, Fruits Basket, the underrated Hana to Akuma, Attack on Titan, Black Butler (but only the manga, whoever developed the anime should be pelted with tomatoes), Kaguya-Sama – Love is War (new-ish but worth checking out) and last but not least Black Haze. (The art gets better I swear!) Undoubtedly more that I forgot about as well. Favorite non canon ships: Ulquiorra x Orihime and Itachi x Sakura come to mind. Previously guilty of Zuko x Katara as well. Kagome x Sesshomaru is weirdly entertaining, and Byakuya x Rukia is another cute ship. Most of my ships are canon and boring, but there are a few odd ones that came out of nowhere, like Deidara x Hinata and Rin Okumura x Black Rock Shooter (Blue flames shipping FTW!) Favorite type of actual ship: Pirate and Battleship. I’m also a fan of Submarines, which are a bit under the radar. Enough about you. Stop the quiz! No…wait, I haven’t even told you my favorite pie yet! Or my least favorite kind of shoe! Nooooooo~ ~Stories~ Ah yes, the real reason you people are here. Becoming a Master: Yeah, yeah, it’s long and unfinished. I posted a few chapters back in 2011, forgot about it, picked it up again in 2014 when I started getting into fanfiction for real, and spent 2016 on rewriting it into a beautiful book length work of art. It’ll get finished, but I was not a good enough author to allow the first version to continue existing once I learned what I was doing. Broken Dolls: My one and only horror story. This one shot is based around the Pokedex entries for Banette, and is easily the darkest thing I've written. Proceed with caution: even I can barely stand to reread this one, and I wrote it! Complete Broken Dolls Official Instrumental Playlist Doki Doki! A Pink Sugar Love Story! In order to date the grown up Yachiru Kusajishi, the men of the Soul Society must first defeat her captain, Kenpachi Zaraki! A mid-length, but funny read. I wrote this story purely because no one else has written this particular plot bunny! (At least, not that I could find!) Originally planned to be a one shot, but I had a bit too much fun with it, and it ended up five chapters. Rated T for Kenpachi Zaraki's existence, and a few battles. Can anyone figure out who our cute pink lieutenant will end up with? ;) Completed! Grape Squishing: Or, in other words, the Minoru Mineta smackdown fic! I'm not gonna lie, I sort of hate this one. It's well written, don't get me wrong, but being inside Mineta's head is super gross. Is it fun to write about him getting killed a lot? Yes. Am I proud of this story as a reflection of quality literature and worthwhile storytelling? Noooo. This was written for my own entertainment, and for the many other people who hate Mineta, and that's about it. Loose Change: Do you like cutesy fic-lets? This is the story for you! Ouran fluff, in character to my completely non-biased eyes, and written in the same style as your average Ouran episode! No obvious ships, just your average Host Club shenanigans, plus penguins. The penguins were 1000% necessary, don’t fight me on this. Complete and very fun! Lorekeepers: Sometimes I hate canon. Because we get this fascinating character named Aster who's a strong, amazing, literal chosen one of destiny and also...offscreen. We never see her, even in the manga adaptations. We hear about her story in bits and pieces through Zinnia in the Delta Episode of ORAS, and get a few more details in the manga and anime, but it's all frustratingly vague. But hey, that's what fanfiction is for, right? This is the story of Aster, told through Zinnia's eyes. From beginning to end, from alpha to omega; the story that was never told. Expect adventure and hidden lore, mystery and strange powers...and dragons. Lots and lots of dragons. Thanks for reading! Ms. Joke's Pundemonium: Exactly as ridiculous as it sounds. Do you like puns? Do you hate puns? You'll either love to read it, or enjoy hating it, but no one could read this without feeling anything! My very first My Hero Academia one shot, written overnight, because the world is glorious and Ms. Joke is a gift to mankind. Be sure to let me know if you liked, or despised it, haha! :D Summer Fanfic Contest Entries & Scores Found a fun contest on the Pokewrite Forum! They hold these a couple times a year, and there's nothing like a deadline to get me writing and publishing new content. I actually enjoyed myself a lot more than I was expecting with this one. I love writing, and these wonderful stories never would have existed if I hadn't taken part. Below are some extras about the fics, my own thoughts, and the judging scores. ~o~ Prompt 1: Write a fic based around "Heat". How you define and use "heat" is entirely up to you. Official Entry - Blaze: This is a one shot that could easily have been a full novel. There was so much potential in the Emberlands, but a short story has limited space, and I had to cut a lot of great stuff by necessity. The story follows Indra Kerrigan on an epic quest across a volcanic plains, where she fights her demons, both literal and metaphorical. Some additional info about the setting and story: I used the Sanskrit language as a linguistic base for names, though the region as a whole is more similar to Australia than India. (The Trial bears resemblances to the traditional Aboriginal 'walkabout', to become an adult, and many features of the Emberlands were inspired by the Victorian Volcano Plain in Australia.) I used elements from many volcanic areas, including Yellowstone, the Utah National Parks, the Deccan Traps from India, and the Harrat Rahat from Saudi Arabia. Indra is typically a boy's name, and refers to their god of rainstorms. I gave Indra grey eyes because of this, and because of her mixed blood. Hariheti, the crystal volcano, means "Indra's Bow" in Sanskrit, or more commonly, "Rainbow". This is a direct reference to Ho-oh's rainbow aspect. Indra's parents lost a child between her and Deo, making her a rainbow baby. It's also fun because her mom and dad wouldn't be together if it weren't for Hariheti. Just little details that didn't make into the final cut! Final Score: Plot: 5/5 - Characters: 5/5 - Detail: 4/5 - Language: 5/5 - Total: 19 - 1st Place Winner ~o~ Prompt 2: In your fic, use the phrase "Anything can be done with the right cause and currency." and make this phrase a key part of the plot. How you interpret the phrase or who says it is up to you. Official Entry - The Leanelle: Everyone knows Mudkip like gummy worms. Which means to attract Mudkip to a village, it makes perfect sense to send a dumb twelve-year-old boy out into deadly jungle to be a gummy drug dealer. What could possibly go wrong? I clearly have issues with short stories, because I wanted to make this one longer at every turn. So many beautiful scenes left unwritten, all because of 'severe length issues' and 'contest word limits', pshhhh. The Leanelle was a joy to write, in that it was an inspirational pain in the butt that caused me several sleepless nights, two days of writing in a bumpy car, and made me cackle like a crazy person once it was finished and out of my life. Written for a little younger of an audience than my usual, with less intensity and blood, but a healthy dose of humor and fun, the Leanelle is the type of story you can enjoy personally and still read to kids. Plenty of room to be a long fic, but alas, it's a short story for the foreseeable future. Final Score: Plot: 3/5 - Characters: 5/5 Detail: 4/5 - Language: 4/5 - Total: 16 - 2nd Place Winner ~o~ Prompt 3 (Final Round): Write a story where the main focus is on the middle evolution of a Pokémon. Said Pokémon doesn't need to be the main character, just the main focus of the story. Note that to be a middle stage, it needs to be a Pokémon with three linear evolutions: no two stages, split evolutions, or form changes. Official Entry - Haunted Blades: Based in ancient Kalos, this story follows the mysterious order of Doublade wielding warriors who protect the country from the shadows. Can you get edgier than that? Doubt it, lol. I went into this entry constructing a battle fic, but no battle story is complete without plot twists and emotion. That stuff makes battles cooler, dangit! After coming up with the basic concept of the Nightblades, I was left wondering why they'd protect Kalos in the first place. Which is what gave the story an actual plot, and one of my favorite endings. I never completely explained that twist in story, but there are more than enough clues for a clever reader to understand why the Honedge only bond with certain children, and why some are guardians instead of rangers. This story is carried along by cool powers, mystery, and fight sequences, but strangely enough, none of those things inspired me as much as the ending scene. Sometimes a story is written around a concept, and others, it's written to build up to a single moment where everything comes together. This one was the latter. Names are primarily French, due to the Kalos setting. Alexi and Branimir Markov are Russian based, as former foreign nobles. Final Score: Plot: 5/5 - Characters: 5/5 - Detail: 5/5 - Language: 5/5 - Total: 20 - Tied For 1st Place Winner ~o~ Final Score: 55/60 - Contest Winner! I had a lot of fun with this contest, and I'm really glad I entered. It got me to write three new stories that I really like, and I won some cool stuff. (A one-shot written by the judge, which I'll link to when it's done, some free reviews, and a leather jacket courtesy of my dad when he found out I won.) Time limits and competition are stressful, but entering was worthwhile. To all the writing forums thinking of hosting a contest, do the thing! To writers wondering if they should enter a contest, you should. The benefits of writing outweigh all the obstacles in your path. (And it'll get you posting new content again, which is really all you need sometimes!) Now that this is complete, I'm going to split The Leanelle and Haunted Blades into multi-chap stories, and add some detail to Blaze. (That one suffered the most from the word limit!) Thanks for all your support, everyone! Time to get back to work on my other stories now, haha! Peace out, you glorious nerds of the internet! ~Little Miss Firebright |
