![]() Well, unlike most of the folks on this site, I am not - alas - a writer (well, not much of one anyway!). At least not of fiction. But I'm an avid reader -- some might even call me pathological in my need for good, new shiny stories to read. I'm also a really reliable reviewer so trust that if I take the time to read a story, I'll definitely take the time to review. I'm not into flaming but I think for good writers, concrit is a necessary part of the process. I learned that lesson at the hands of my BFF who is a writer and one that would never take "I liked it! Really!" as real feedback on anything she'd written. I've also been known to beta and edit from time to time so I'm happy to help out if anyone is in need. My love of fanfic basically sprang from my love of Logan/Veronica (back when, you know, the show was good and Rob Thomas hadn't fucked everything up beyond all imagining). They are still my favorite pairing but I've got a few others on my roster: Buffy/Spike on BtVS; Apollo/Starbuck on Battlestar Glactica; Bones/Booth and Angela/Hodgins on Bones; Logan/Marie from the X-Men series (back when, you know, the verse was good and Brett Rattner hadn'd fucked everything up beyond all imagining); Chuck/Sarah from Chuck; Victor/Sierra on Dollhouse; and most recently, Annie/Auggie from Covert Affairs. Fave shows: Honestly? I think Joss Whedon is a god. Like for real. THE GOD of all things TV. Genius, genius, genius. Oh, and did I mention, GENIUS? 'Cause the dude is freaking BRILLIANT. I heart beyond words both Buffy and Firefly and mourn their passing every day. I had a brief and torrid love affair with Veronica Mars (I even modded for The LoVe Shack -- hi girls!!!) but that relationship ended very badly (see previous 'ship disclaimer) when the creator (unlike the aforementioned genius of Joss) decided to ignore the BEST.PAIRING.EVER. (not to mention the genius of Jason Dohring) and everything else great about his show AND what his fans wanted to see and instead shoved his petulant "I know better than you what you want to see" crap-ass storylines [Piz? SERIOUSLY?? What. The. Fuck.] down our throats instead until we could no longer bear the pain. But I'm not bitter or anything. I've also got big love for Chuck (because, well, have you seen it?); Glee (I want to adopt Kurt Hummel, seriously); Lost (Sawyer rule #1: always be wet); BSG (Kara Thrace is a wonderful sort of fuckup and Lee Adama couldn't be more perfect for her. Plus? Having a woman President rocks.); Bones (love my Hodges and Bones/Boothe kick ass); True Blood (Erik Northman FTW!); White Collar (because who doesn't love Neal Caffrey? Plus, he and Peter are one of my favorite bromances); Psych (Gus, don't be an incorrigible Eskimo pie with a caramel ribbon). I'm also into CSI (could Nick Stokes be any more perfect? Marry me George Eads!), CSI:NY (it's all about Danny/Lindsay). I also love Saving Grace, The Closer, Dancing With the Stars (Sabrina was robbed!), Pushing Dasies (has there ever been a sweeter/weirder show? I think not), Moonlight (It's like Buffy meets VM -- and Logan stuck around! Love, love, love); Ugly Betty (Mark and Amanda are hilarious and I adore Christina and little Justin), How I Met Your Mother (it's all about Barney who is beyond fab...wait for it...ulous!), Dexter, Law & Order:SVU (Stabler and Benson need to get their shit together. Like fo REAL.) and oh - about a zillion others. And now that I realize how appallingly long this list is, I'm just going to quit before things get any uglier. I love music, particularly live shows, and have about as many favorite bands/artists as I do shows. A few are Better Than Ezra (since like forever), Jeff Buckley, Copeland, Trouble Over Tokyo, Mute Math, The Classic Crime, Kenna, Cake, G-Love and Special Sauce, Hawthorne Heights, Fall Out Boy, Ben Folds (solo and Five), The Foo Fighters, Dashboard Confessional, Phantom Planet and a host of others. My absolute favorite right now is Anberlin with Between The Trees coming in a close second. If you don't know them, get on the stick! I assure you, to know them is to love them. Check out "The Symphony of Blase" and "." among others by Anberlin but really just about anything off of Cities or Never Take Friendship Personal will do. As for Between the Trees, just go out and buy Spain. Yes, the whole record. You'll thank me. It's that good. Books and movies could take even longer than shows so I'm going to try to keep the lists short. Movies: Serenity and Almost Famous (the Untitled cut) top the list. I also love Garden State, Say Anything, Saved!, Real Genius, Empire Records, Big Fish, Hairspray (the musical), Rent, Annie, Just Like Heaven, She's The Man, Hot Fuzz!, Love Actually, Hackers, and X-Men 1 & 2 (I like to pretend the third one never happened). Again, a zillion more where those came from, but that list will do. Oh, and A Muppetts Christmas Carol is the best holiday movie ever. Seriously. And the more I think about it, the more I realize I can't even start the book list. It's too dangerous. Let's just say that when I moved from my last apartment I had approximately 20 boxes full of stuff from various rooms in the house and about 50 boxes of books. Seriously. I love fiction both popular and obscure and non-fiction on a variety of subjects. Basically, I am obsessed with the written word. So that's me, on a page. And what I guess it really boils down to is: if you write it, I'll read it. I'm SO there. :-) |
