Memories:

They awoke to the sound of crying. Now, it wasn't that uncommon. Since Groot had begun regrowing, there had been a number of times that an infant's wails had woken them mid-sleep cycle. But this time, it was different. This time, it was the sound of pain.

Almost:

Rocket almost felt a sort of fatherly pride in seeing Groot grow up like this. Almost.

Adolescence:

When Peter closed the door to Groot's room, he was fuming. Rocket chuckled. "Well, of course he's like that, ya' nimrod. The lil guy's goin' through puberty."

Typical:

They expected Groot stuck in a sprout's body. What they did not expect was for Groot to be an actual infant. Or, nine times Rocket insisted Groot was grown, and one time he accepted his fatherhood.

It wasn't uncommon in chronically ill children, or children that had been abused, so it didn't surprise Hopper. He had gone through this with Sara. But Sara had never reacted like this. Maybe that was because Sara was never punished for simply being a child.

In Which Eleven Catches the Flu

For Eleven, it had been all sterile walls, white floors, and vaccinations. She had never been exposed to illness, at least not the physical kind, and she was not prepared for what her first bout of the Flu will feel like. She feels miserable. Hopper feels terrified.

In Which An Old Habit is Revisited

Of course, Hopper wasn't really all that surprised, deep down. In the single day she had been under his care, he had noticed that a number of her actions seemed odd for her age. This was just one more to add onto the list, and he couldn't find himself to be upset.

The night had lasted so, so long, and Eleven was so, so tired. But she had done it. She had closed the gate, and now she was safe again. Safe with Hopper, and Joyce, and Mike, and the party. Safe with her family.

In the small while that Eleven had come back into their lives, the girl had been staying with Karen and Holly during school hours. Every day, picking the party up from school was the most important part of the day.

Warm Home Hopper called Diane. They fought. He told her that Sara was safe. They argued more. Finally, they agreed that Sara could stay with her father. She could stay until the law interfered with custody. That was good enough for Hopper, because he was sure they wouldn’t hand his girl back to a drunk with a deadbeat husband, even if she was the birth mother. Now was the question of whether or not Eleven would be okay with a new housemate -- and whether or not Sara would be okay with a psychokinetic little sister. [STRANGER THINGS. IN PROGRESS. Of Sickness, Soup, and Sisters

All she wanted to do was make her sister feel better, and all she had done was make a mess. All she ever did was make messes. But that was okay, because now she had a family. And with family, it was okay to make messes.

Notes:

I write BB-8 genderfluidly. As seen in some pieces of official screenplay, the droid is referred to as both. So it'll be switching up with whatever feels right in the specific story. BB is a smol roly poly, gender is not a definite.
