Author has written 4 stories for Avatar: Last Airbender, and Legend of Korra. Normally I'm somewhat disinclined to talk about myself (at least in an online profile), but I'll keep a little in here. I used to have a bunch of (mostly ranting) things, but I've decided to trim it down. I'm a software engineer with a lot of hobbies, one of which happens to be writing. I'm also 30 and male. I realize that is somewhat unusual for a fan fiction writer, more so for ATLA. No, I don't live with my parents and/or in a basement, nor am I a social recluse. I go out and enjoy craft beers, play soccer and volleyball, snowboard, play video games, go on dates sometimes, etc. I just also happen to be an extreme ATLA nerd. I love cartoons, and this series is the best I've ever seen. I'm not a shipper, and I tend to dislike stories that exist *solely* for the purpose of promoting a favorite pair. Most of the fanbase here will disagree with me, and that's okay, but I think those stories belong in a private journal. I'm not anti-romance or anything... but seriously, the plot has to be a little deeper than "characterX and characterY are thrust into a situation that forces them to acknowledge their feelings for one another". I loathe NAMESQUISH weeks. Thank goodness ficnet improved their filters. On the other hand, I like stories that explore the past and future of the main characters, and I've found I particularly enjoy well-constructed OCs (rare as they are). Clever AUs are also a fun read, when done well. The Avatar world to me is just as interesting as the existing and known characters themselves... there is a lot of untapped potential there. I can be downright brutal when it comes to bad grammar in writing, both when reviewing others and proofreading my own work. Point out my errors, please... let's raise the bar. This same attention to detail applies to abuse of homophones, misspelled names, poor characterization, contrived plots, awful titles/summaries, AUs that border on plagiarism, and 'randomness' being used as a substitute for actual humor. Any writer who welcomes criticism and seeks to improve their art, I want to know you. Likewise, any reader who provides thoughtful criticism in their reviews, you are a diamond within a sea of cubic zirconia. |
