I am SoulPieces, a hobby-writer who’s been around since 2010. As life would have it, I’ve grown away from writing, but I do still enjoy it. My current project is rewriting one of my first posted fics, Seven Rings in Hand. I remember being so proud of it back then, but when I revisited it in September of 2018, I found so many things wrong with it that I decided that it deserved a rewrite. Think of it as me paying my respects to the first fic I wrote that made me go “wow, I really love writing. I’d love to share this with others!” Though I had written stories before (one of which is actually on here), Seven Rings in Hand was the first one I really felt proud of. Enjoy! Below is some of my own personal commentary of my stories, in case anyone is interested :) This segment was last updated on 9.17.2018 The Stories Secrets and Regrets: Not going to lie, this fic is the epitome of today’s crossover vehicle market: pandering to the trend at the time in an attempt to garner brand attention. I went with a “Sonic and friends in high school!” theme, as at the time I was in Junior High, and these types of fics were popular at the time. A few flaws I can remember off the top of my head without rereading include: Seven Rings in Hand: The first story I was proud of, Seven Rings in Hand was, at the time, a really great feat for me. I played countless hours of SatSR, and had the idea of a self insert from the start. It began as a writing exercise and developed into a fairly decent story. Clearly, this is a favorite, which is why I decided to rewrite it. It is also how I came up with my online name. However, it is far from flawless: The Search for Light: A Zelda story I am still proud of. This story has undergone 3 or 4 rewrites during the time that I was still writing it. It changed from a self-insert Mary-Sue who mirrored Link to a more reasonable, stand-alone character who adds to the story rather than interrupts it. I consider this one of my greatest stories to date, despite the fact that I have been unable to write any more for 4 years. I hate that I’ve let it sit for so long, but I hope that one day I can deliver the completed version to my readers. I think they’re almost as excited as me to see how the story ends. One thing that I truly appreciate about this story is that it forced me to begin outlining my ideas before putting them into the story. I feel that it flows far better than anything I’ve previously written. I won’t be going through flaws with this story until I have finished it. Waiting: A narrative of a very intense moment in my childhood gaming history. Let’s face it, guys: when you beat the Elite Four and your rival, only to come face-to-face with the protagonist of the previous game, you felt a moment of amazement. I attempted to capture this low-resolution moment in a fully-fledged narrative with a somewhat serious and mysterious undertone. It is mostly an exercise in my own ability, but I’m proud of it. My biggest flaw in the story is that I still feel like it didn’t have the exact tone I wanted. I’m not sure how to go about changing it, though. Dream Chasers: A two-part series that barely has anything written on it. I came up with the idea a while back, and wrote out an entire outline of both stories, start to finish. Funnily enough, I’ve struggled hardest with how I want to begin the story, despite all my planning. Still, I think it’s a good story, especially for the target age group for Pokemon. Diedre’s Magic: An Animal Crossing: New Leaf narrative. Not too much to say about this one, and I may never finish it. I’d put it at the bottom of my priority list. Originally posted on an Animal Crossing site I used to frequent called Animal Crossing Community. Seven Rings in Hand: The Rewrite: You guys already know. A rewrite of the first. I just wanted to see if I could rewrite the story, keep the same general idea, but take it in a different direction. We’ll see how it stacks up to the previous! |
