Writing has been a somewhat elusive passion of mine for the last 20 years or so. I have a multitude of stories that float about in my head and nailing them down is always a tricky process. Still, I keep coming back to it. As well as writing, I also have a passion for art and music. I especially enjoy searching out the undiscovered or long-forgotten stories. Mythology and fairy tales have long held me captive, and I love anything with a good supernatural twist to it. Hope you enjoy my work! A Musing Moment, or an a-muse-ment - I grew up (partially) on an isolated farm in smack dab in the middle of Nowheresville, USA. (Actually, it was Central Illinois, but really, its the same thing.) There was no friends, and barely any TV (In those days, we got 4 channels. 5, if we were lucky and were able to adjust the ariel just right). So, all I had were books. To say that I read books would be a vast understatement. I devoured books. I ate 'em up and spat 'em out. I inhaled them, any that I could find, regardless of type. All sorts: Encyclopedias, history books, half-cocked scientific journals on the nature of time travel, codes and brain teasers, Reader's Digest, horrible romance novels, school textbooks, and a smidge of the classics. Then, one magic summer, I was given a set of books called Over Sea and Under Stone, by Susan Cooper. It was part of The Dark Is Rising series. These books had a tremendous impact on my life. First, through them, I became aware of a place called Wales. And for some reason, I couldn't get it out of my head. I developed Anglophenia quite early on, and haven't been able to cure it since. Also, they introduced my to the world of Mythology. Not just fairy tales and folklores, but the Adult version. The one that's rated 'R'. Finally, they embedded a love for fantasy that I'm pretty sure is illegal in at least one state. Anyway, eventually I left the country life and moved to a slightly more populated version of Nowheresville, USA. There I found friends, a library(!), and cable. And life would never be the same. :D My favorite Everything - Authors: Susan Cooper(obviously), Terry Pratchett, Garth Nix, Rick Riordan, The Bronte Sisters, Herman Melville, Thomas Hardy, CS Lewis, Tolkien, Stephen King, Simon Winchester, Victor Hugo, Neil Gaiman, and I'm sure I've left out a lot... Stories: Mythology from any culture, fairy tales and folklore, ghost stories, interesting historical accounts (San Francisco Earthquake of 1906, biographies about lesser known, but influential people), impossible/tragic romances (usually mixed with paranormal fantasy. NO vampires or werewolves, though), classic literature, humor TV: Spirited (probably my favorite show EVER), Merlin, Surface, Britcoms (yep, all of them), The Fades, Doctor Who, Sherlock, Carnivale (probably my second favorite show), New Girl, South Park, ... I'd better just stop at that, or else this list might go on forever! Movies: Yes Music: Also yes. Mostly indie bands, classic prog rock, space pop. Basically anything that doesn't normally make it to mainstream radio, is a bit melancholy, and has a good beat.
