 Author has written 2 stories for Kuroshitsuji, and Devil May Cry. Hi I'm a college student in the US. I like amime, but I just recently started reading and writing fanfiction. However I have always had a love for writing, and have written original works. I usually focused a lot on the supernatural, romance, everyday life/ school life, family, and drama. Oddly enough though, most anime I watch are action oriented and not about normal life at all. I also am a gamer though I mostly play DMC 3 & 4. I'm a Resident Evil fan though it's been a while. I also love old school Super Nintendo games too (Ah the memories). I chose this name because I am truly just an innocent fan girl. I am a big time goody two shoes. I am super shy and am easily embarrassed. Trust me. But I don't know if my writing will tell the same tale. My mind wanders...a lot, and my imagination could scare you... Probably. So it's been about a year since I've discovered this site, and I'm going to be totally honest. Most writing on here is... Garbage! I'm sorry! You can hardly find anything that is really worth your time. FanFiction Pet Peeves Bad Writing It kills me when poorly written trash gets praised in reviews. I honestly could talk about this all day! I don't know how old people are on here, but the bad grammar in these stories is nauseating! It's like they blatantly ignore all the rules of the English language. If English is not your first language, please write in your native tongue.A lot of times writers rush chapters. This not only makes for grammatical error but also bad flow. Bad pacing can really mess things up too. Telling and not showing really sucks as well. Stop telling me everything in such simple ways and describe it to me. Don't say things like, "She didn't like apples, but she took an apple slice from the bowl and ate it." Be more discriptive and let the author infer some things. Say things like, "She grimaced at the bowl of juicy apple slices but reluctantly popped one into her mouth." In the second version, readers can infer she doesn't like apples without being told.Changing Tenses This goes with bad writing. I don't know why people can't keep stories in one tense. These stories should be in past tense, yet they switch to present and all this crazy stuff. For example, "She looked up and sees her friend ran towards her. She meets up with her friend and holding her close." This was so painful to write! Stay in one tense! This doesn't make since, at all, period! Again it kills me when stories like these get high praises! Do you not see the obvious...? Ugh forget it!Bad Dialogue Unrealistic dialogue can also totally ruin a story as well. It needs to feel a little real to me. Bad dialogue can make me stop reading a story. Dialogue's that important to me.Bad format. I hate when a fic has no real paragraphs (5-10 sentences). Instead it's a bunch of random one, two, and three liners, all spaced out on a page. This might be me being picky, but it's pretty irritating. It's just...Wrong. Just like huge one paragraph stories. Separate things into decent sized paragraphs.Romance fics Honestly I don't think people know the difference between romance and porn. I won't get too much into this, but these stories make up too much of this site. Plus, most of these people don't even know how it works, and it shows. All I want are good friendship or family fics with Nero and Dante and/or Vergil! That's it!Bad Summaries I'm tired of seeing "I suck at summaries"or "sucky summary" or "just read it". It is the author's responsibility to write an interesting and coherent summary. It's not that hard! If you can't write a summary, I automatically assume you can't write a story. I also hate seeing things in the summaries that are irrelevant like the origin of the idea, or ''first fic", or begging for reviews. I also hate when summaries are redundant. They tell you things that the author already told us, like the genres, characters, and status.Breaking the Rules The amount of graphic porn on here is crazy! This just isn't the place for it. MA content is not allowed, yet they continue to ignore this. Go to adult fanfiction! Sometimes I feel like reporting all of them, but that'd take too long. I also hate when people don't rate things accurately. For example when a character curses like a sailor in a k rated story. I also hate interactive stories, which are also not allowed, profanity in summaries and titles, and lastly when people dedicate entire chapters to author's notes. Follow the rules! Jeez!Song Fics These are just horrible! All the time! Please no more, no more! They're also not allowed by the way. You can't use copyrighted stuff or whatever.OC centric Fics These are also horrible and they're everywhere! They suck, so stop writing them! If you're gonna create a bunch of OC's, go to fiction press and write your own original work.Second and First Person Well honestly 1st person is okay...Sometimes, but 2nd person is horrible! Character x reader fics tend to use this perspective a lot, but it sucks! Just don't use it! 3rd person POV is best. And stop switching perspectives too! It's incorrect!M Preg I effing hate M preg! It's effing disgusting! Do all of us a favor and purge these fantasies out of your mind! For the love of our Lord Jesus Christ, stop!Inclusion of foreign Languages Look guys, I know we're all like otaku and everything... But I can't stand when Japanese is just randomly sprinkled into a story. Hai, Oi, san/chan/sama/kun/senpai/dono... Whatever just stop. This goes for other languages as well. We don't all know Spanish, French, Italian, Latin, etc, so don't put it in an English story. I would think everyone would see the problem with this. I'll only accept the san/chan/senpai stuff if it is said in the dub, like in Ouran for example. |
