Author has written 7 stories for Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Pokémon, Naruto, Frozen, and Harry Potter. About the Author. Right then. Hello there. You have been suitably impressed with my stories and intrigued by my charming personality, and therefore you have checked out my page. I am very proud of you. You have done the right thing. Here. Have a cookie. *tries to make cookies digital* *Fails miserably* So a bit about myself then? Well, I'm Indian, so my English might not be the best out there. I will not reveal my name because...seriously, which proper evil overlord gives his name out wily-nily? When I take over the world, I don't want you peeps associating that dude with 'ProdigyPsycho'. It will save up a lot of hate-mail. Although I will reveal that I am male. Since roughly half the population of the world is male, I'm guessing it makes y'all trust me a bit more, yet I still don't reveal my identity. (I am a Magnificent Bastard.) Moving on with the standard introduction in Naruto... (I probably will make a lot of references to Naruto. Bear with me.) I like comedy, puns, jokes, cartooning, manga, Alternative Rock, regular plain old rocks (Go Geology!), drawing, opera music, thriller novels (without too much romantic drama), basketball, Martial Arts, psychology, physics, maths, running, piano's (pianoes?), thinking, chess, pizza, hot-dogs, cheese, photography, clouds, magic, lies, awkwardness, heights and Batman. Because Batman's freaking awesome. I dislike vegetables, fish, lovey-dovey stuff, romantic songs, cute kittens, dogs, canaries, parrots, running water, mosquitoes, overbearing people, irrationality, fashion, chemistry and formal shoes. I once had a dream that I was eating a cupcake. Does that count? To all those Psychology fans, try guessing my MBTI type. To all those Sherlock fans, try deducing stuff I haven't mentioned here explicitly using what I have, or other sources. To the rest, are y'all annoyed yet? What I think makes a good Fan fiction. These are some of the things I try to bring into my works, and appreciate incredibly in other works. Plot. Lots of plot Beautiful intricate plot that weaves a story before the reader's eyes, showing them their world, making us fall in love with your characters, keeping us guessing and hooked. I hate predictable stuff. I want the authors to try and keep us guessing as to what comes next, letting out a hint here, giving a slight peek there, and then, BLAM! You pull the rug out from our feet and leave us saying "DAMN! I did not see that coming!" And yes, the 'damn'? It should be in capitals. Most Naruto, Harry Potter, Pokemon (actually anything that has action within it) is basically either making the main characters all powerful or gives them a completely different move-set/personality and follows the exact same canon story with just the characters god-stomping everyone. Fan-fiction, to me at least, is about telling a story. Yes, I agree, sometimes that includes giving a slightly different personality to a person, but show a valid reason for it happening, why the character isn't the same from canon. And just because you like him because he is the main character and he deserves to be cooler is not a valid reason. Unless it is meant to be a crack-fic. Then that's cool. Originality. You will not believe how many stories I've gone through that are essentially the same. Here's an example. Naruto anyone? Naruto beaten up a kid, apparently all his chakra is sealed, sometime after or slightly before hebreaks open those seals and becomes something comparable to Kage. A freaking KAGE. I rest my case. And sometimes, theories about how he got those powers are simply ludicrous. Sometimes when Naruto gets the Sharingan/Rinnegan, I actually fall off my chair laughing before I realize that it isn't a crack fic. Then there's the time travel thing. If done properly, these could be freaking amazing. Sadly, most aren't. Overly developed 20-40 year old main character goes back in time to prevent an apocalyptic event from happening, and promptly god-stomps over every single childhood difficulty he faced. Usually, this ends in the said story being incomplete. Like I can literally count the number of finished Time travel fics. On one hand. And I've seen well over 400. Approximately. And then there's those oneshots where two characters get together. Heres the plot line. 1) Character A likes character B. 2) A and B have a completely unrelated conversation which somehow ends up with the two of them kissing. Logical. Then there are those fictions that go "Look there, a magical stone that can solve all our problems!" And then the characters encounter unicorns. Being eaten by grasshoppers. Big, giant Grasshoppers. Wearing jeans. I exaggerate, but I do hope you get the general drift. Deus-ex-machina (Did I spell that right?) are huge no-no's for me. I need to actually believe that the thing even could happen. So if you are planning on doing something like a deus-ex-machina, drop hints, but never outright state it. J.K.Rowling (author of the Harry Potter series) does this amazingly. Small scale, she offhandedly mentions something in the start of the book, which somehow ends up playing a huge role later on. Chamber of Secrets and Moaning Myrtle's washroom, anyone? Large scale, she mentions Grindelwald in Albus' introduction, and gives Harry the invisibility cloak, and six books later? BAM! Deathly Hallows are Grinelwald's wand, Resurrection Stone, and Harry's cloak. Then there are those fictions which proceed in a straightforward manner, but oh so logically that you can't really say they aren't sound. And then there are AU's. So much could be said about this, but I'll try keeping it brief. Au's are literally my favorite kind of stories. You can make one small change, way before the story actually starts, and then WHAM! The changes that occur are Mind Blowing. Make Katniss Everdeen (Hunger Games) a girl from District 1. or Jiraiya the fifth Hokage (Naruto). Or Anna the older sister(Frozen). The possibilities are endless. And the thing is, there doesn't even need to be one change. It could be two or four or seven or countless! Grammar/Style. And then, there's grammar. I'm definitely no saint in this department, but I do try to keep my works from having grammatical defects. Sometimes, you may have a killer plot, a real original idea, and a logical proceeding of events, but no one enjoys the story because no one understands what you've written. I will be more like translating ancient archaeological findings rather than a good book to spend time with. And I just don't mean 'What did who.' instead of 'Who did what?' or 'I want a banana.' I mean stating everything clearly. Like you go through fifteen chapters and then the girl pulls out her dagger and everyone is like "She had a dagger? I did not know that." Give all necessary information, but no more. In brief, most fan-fictions I term 'bad' (they may not really be bad, I may just not have a liking for them) say that 'This should happen'. Or 'A should end up with B'. Or 'K should die.', etc. Instead, I want them to present ideas or events that could happen, and everyone who reads that should be like "Hey, I could actually see something like that happening in canon." They show possibilities that everyone reading them, no matter whatever preconceived biases should be able to appreciate whatever happens in your story. I myself am still far from achieving this, but ultimately, this is my idea of what kind of writer I should become. Fandoms I like. BBC Sherlock (TV Show) Harry Potter (Books/Movies) Frozen (Movies) Naruto (Anime) Rise of the Guardians (Movies) The World God only Knows (Anime) The Hunger Games (Books) The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Books) DC Comics (TV Shows, Cartoons, Movies, Comics, etc.) |
