After a long hiatus from the world of fan fiction, I have returned with a new account and fresh story ideas.

Current project:

A Prelude to Chaos Control: "It's my fault the Chaos Emeralds were lost, so it's my duty to find them before Eggman does!" An immediate prequel to Sonic X, this story explores Tails' struggles with self-worth as he attempts to build a detector to locate the mystical gems. Action/adventure elements with brotherly moments between Sonic and Tails contained herein.

Update (7/30/2020): Chapter 9 is now live! I'll upload chapter 10 within the next two weeks.

What got you into writing fan fiction?

It started around 2010. I was in high school at the time, and I was exposed to some excellent Sonic fics on this site. Therefore, I decided to try my hand at writing, updating a story once every several months that took place after the events of Sonic X and featured Barack Obama. Needless to say, it was cringey, and shortly after starting college a few years later, I deleted this story and abandoned my old account.

Fast forward to 2020: I am now out of college and working a stable job. I was feeling rather nostalgic, and I had a lot of spare time thanks to working from home due to the coronavirus, so I came back to this site, read some of the works that had the greatest impact on me as a teenager, and after reading some more recent works by other authors, I felt motivated to write once again. My spouse, who is into creative writing themself, was supportive of this new endeavor, and is even beta reading my current story. Yay!

Yep! I keep my private life separate from my new fan fiction writer's life, so I won't reveal my true identity out in the open, but you can hit me up on Tumblr or Reddit if you'd like. My username on both sites is AndTails.

Who is your favorite Sonic character?

Miles "Tails" Prower. Why? Tails is the epitome of awesomeness: a kind, gentle, cute, and underrated hero who needs to overcome unique personal obstacles to save his friends and defeat evil. Plus, I empathize with the young kitsune quite a bit, as I'm sure many of you do as well.

Who is your favorite Tails voice actor?

Amy Palant, who voiced Tails in Sonic X and in the games from 2005 to 2010. In my opinion, she best captured the essence of the character, an excellent combination of kindness and determination. Some dislike the fact that she made Tails sound more feminine, and many Sonic fans prefer Katie Higgins and Colleen O'Shaughnessey, his later voice actors, for making him sound more like a boy, but I personally preferred Palant's performance. There was just something more sweet and kind to her voice that, in my opinion, is a little lost in Higgins and O'Shaughnessey's takes on the character.

That being said, though, I have no issues with the current voice actor, and she does a fine job of playing Tails. My critiques are minute at best. I'll admit that much of my preference is likely based on nostalgia, as I seriously got into the Sonic series while Palant played Tails, and a lot of it just comes down to personal preference. Either way, I imagine Palant's voice whenever I'm reading a Sonic fic.

I think we can all agree, though, that Tails should never be played by a child ever again (I'm looking at you Adventure 1, Adventure 2, and Heroes...).

What got you into the Sonic series?

Technically, the first videogame I ever played was Sonic 2 for the Genesis. I still have fond memories playing multiplayer with my older brother, why the two-player soundtrack to the game is so nostalgic for me. I didn't really get into the Sonic series, however, until around 2006 as a middle schooler. I acquired the Sonic Mega Collection for the PS2 and played it religiously until curiosity drove me to play some of the other games in the series. My journey brought me through Heroes, Adventure 1, Adventure 2, Shadow, and all of the Genesis titles, including Spinball and 3D Blast (such an underrated soundtrack!).

In 2008, I received a PS3 for X-Mas as well as copies of Sonic 2006 and Sonic Unleashed. I played 06 first, having been blind to the vitriol the game received until after I finished it; while it had its problems, I rather enjoyed it as a young teenager, even though I likely wouldn't have the same patience playing it as an adult. Unleashed was, of course, much more enjoyable. XD

Since then, I've been playing all the new Sonic games as they are released, acquiring a Wii to play Colors and the Storybook series, playing Generations religiously, and exploring the backlog to play some of the titles I missed, especially for the handheld titles for GBA and DS. I even own a Game Gear! And, of course, I pre-order any Sonic game that is announced. :D

At the end of the day, what brings me back to the Sonic series, and what makes me excited to play the games, watch the shows, consume the comics, and read/write fan fiction, is that Sonic and friends are phenomenal characters, and the various Sonic universes are fantastic. I enjoy Tails and Sonic's dynamic in particular, the reason why my current story focuses so much on their brotherly friendship. My enjoyment of the series, even as I've entered adulthood, has not abated, and I'm sure it'll continue for decades to come.

What do you do besides write and read fan fiction?

I enjoy playing bass guitar, blogging about politics (studied Political Science in college), playing videogames, dabbling with digital drawing (a recent hobby), and spending time with the spouse. Given my hobbies, I don't get out much...

With the spouse, I am watching Cowboy Bebop. My first time, too! Everyone is shocked when they learn I haven't watched this classic.

Alone, I am watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Every other episode, I stop and ask myself: "What am I even watching?" At the very least, I now understand many of the memes. XD
