After a terrible accident, Merlin is left with no memory of his time in Camelot. Separated from Arthur and all who could tell him who he is, Merlin tries to piece together his life and his loyalties. But loyalties can be influenced; lives can take very different paths to the ones they were destined for. And a lost sorcerer is a very powerful and useful weapon to have.

Jack loves the land thick with snow where buildings rise like an improbable castle amidst the elements. He loves the room that has become his room, and the cocoa that North hands him absently on the nights they sit together in the kitchen, talking late into the night. For three centuries, when he imagined what it was like to have a father, it was not so very different from this.

He scratches designs into tree bark and onto the ice of puddles. He traces snowflakes in the frost on window panes and forms the outlines with twigs and draws them with his fingers in the dirt. He incorporates these small details, these things that are so refreshingly new to him. And for the first time ever, someone sees him at his work.

As a general rule, diving into unknown swirly vortexes in the Ghost Zone is a bad idea, but this was a time when Danny had no other real choice. Meanwhile, Jake thought he was through dealing with ghosts, but Rotwood, well, he's just getting started.

The truth of Merlin's magic can have many repercussions, and the lies and betrayals can threaten to overcome everything. But what about all of the good that he could have done? And how does Arthur feel when he sees it for himself? No spoilers for season 5, but makes sense concurrently. Possibly a series of one-shot instances of Merlin using magic in front of others.

Post 5.13. Somehow, even without a clear view of his face, Arthur can tell Merlin's smiling. It seems like Merlin's always smiling, these days.
