A special recomendation for fans of who-did-it-mysteries. Read 'Cat and Mouse' by alzzu. By chapter 3 you will be on edge and by chater 4 you will see the irony for the characters and be crying tears of fustration on their behalf. Trust me, if you want suspense and good logical development, check this story out. 'Living with Danger' - THE BEST - 'Living with Danger' - THE BEST - 'Living with Danger' - THE BEST - 'Living with Danger' - THE BEST - 'Living with Danger' - THE BEST - 'Living with Danger' -'Living with Danger' - THE BEST! I want to shamelessly toot my IDOL's horn here because I totally idolise her interesting witing. A HUGE recomendation (it's singled out, so it must be good) - read 'Living with danger' by 'whydoyouneedtoknow' because her characterisation annd plot suspense and logical development and empathy-evoking-writing-techniques are THE BEST. You will be interested and enjoy it from the first sentence (guaranteed) and her writing quality in this fic NEVER declines (only gets better in my oppinion - she's trying to be a full time author and has already published a fiction book). See my own creations appear (when the stressful season is over, I promise to give you guys a complete story)! "The more you do mathematics, the deeper it sinks in. The best way to learn a formula is to use it; likewise, the best way to learn mathematical concepts is to use them. You'll get better at learning maths with practice." I love the person who said this. I would literally marry him. Heh, these days my gender can't be assumed like that, from a comment like that. JKR wrote it as Asteria. There's an "e" there, not an "o". And given a choice, I'm more likely to think Time got it wrong, not JKR. It makes sense that it is Asteria: 1.) She is a figure of Greek mythology like Draco, Daphne and Scorpius. A Greek goddess connected to divination, astrology and necromancy. 2.) Asteria means "starry, falling star" which fits with the whole star theme the Black/Malfoys have going. 3.) Asteria was a Titan, like Hyperion. That means Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy was named after his mother and his father. 4.) The aster, like the narcissus, is a flower. So Asteria, like Narcissa, has a floral name. That is why I advocate the use of Asteria Greengrass and not "Astoria". If you give 'couple names' to the Harry Potter couples - James and Lily Potter are: 'Lames' or 'Jily' Harry and Ginny Potter are: 'Hinny' or 'Garry' My take on Snape's welcome to the afterlife - (In case it's not obvious, I'll clarify my thoughts; I think Snape's a martyr and Lily doesn't deserve both his and James's love.) "Oh Sev! I'm so glad you're awake!" "Wha- Lily? Is it, is it you? It really is you. Lily! I'm so glad to see you. Where are we?" "Oh Sev! Look around! Is it not obvious this is heaven? I have been waiting to see you, and it has been really great seeing you again, but I have to go right now. Harry needs me. I can feel the pull now; I have to go." "Wait! Lily! Are you-" Snape's voice broke. Every passing second she was getting fainter and fainter, less real. "Are you going to come back?" he whispered. "I, I don't know. I think I might be back, but I'm not sure. After all this time being up here, I've never felt anything like it before. Even while watching my only child grow, I've never felt like he's needed me anymore than he does now. It's almost as if, he's summoning me. You know what I mean?" Snape didn't. It was beyond the point of comprehension, knowing that the only girl he'd ever loved - the girl that has been dead for sixteen years - was leaving him once again. So he did what he know best; he lied. Because he knew that's what she wanted to hear... "Yes, I know exactly what you mean Lily. I know how you feel." I can't fanthom a worse outcome than not trying. Anything else which could conceivably happen wouldn't be worse. "Watch your thoughts, for they become words. Watch your words, for they become your actions. Watch your actions, for they become habits. Watch your habits, because they become your character. And watch your character, for it becomes your destiny." - Iron Lady It's how you live your life - what you say and do to others and yourself - that makes you who you are. Even - no, especially - for adults. Hmm, there's a thought about neuroplasticity in adults. It's cool beans to step out of your comfort zone. "matters of the heart have dictated the course of history far more often than any choices of conscious thought." Lack of egoism - to be humble and not proud, sure, but more importantly, to have no qualms about crying in front of others, or accepting pity and sympathy. If you are the sort of person who would skip out of a situation to avoid embarrassment to yourself, then you probably do have an ego, and you don't want to puncture it. "It's gonna be alright." When in doubt, talk in cliches. They can be the correct thing to say sometimes. Really. Sometimes all it takes is your voice. "For I count your loss as my loss, and you grief as my own" "It's a proven fact that sometimes you don't know what you need until it arrives. " Quote from Less Wrong's MoR: "Perhaps people fail to become who they are meant to be because they are too lazy to put in all the work involved or perhaps because they don't know themselves, through ignorance and lack of thought. Perhaps we become who we are meant to be by following our desires wherever they lead and perhaps people fail to become themselves because they refuse to do what is necessary to achieve their ambitions. But then one notes that nearly all of the Dark Wizards to come out of Hogwarts have been Slytherins. Did they become what they were meant to be? I think not. A Gryffindor would say that people don't become who they should be, because they're afraid. People become who they are meant to be by doing what is right." Quote from Less Wrong's MoR: "If you want to be a rationalist you hve to read an awful lot of papers on flaws in human nature, and some of those flaws are innocent logical failures, while some of them reflect upon the dark aspects of human nature. The best rationalists have a strong sense of curiosity - a wondering and desiring to know the true answer. And, this is not the only virtue a rationalist needs. Sometimes you have to work hard on a problem, and stick to it for a while. Sometimes you need a clever plan for finding out. And sometimes what you need more than anything else to see an answer, is the courage to face it..." Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear. Quote from Less Wrong's MoR: "Most people are afraid. They live their whole lives circumscribed by a crippling fear that cuts off everything they might accomplish, everything they might become. Fear of saying or doing the wrong thing, fear of losing their mere possessions, fear of death, and above all the fear of what other people will think of them. Such fear is a most terrible thing, Miss Granger." When you feel angry, it means that you don't think the situation is fair. Angry means you think something ought to be different and that the situation is undeserved. When you feel sad, you feel that the situation is deserved. Just sums up the Silmarillion and LOTR for me: "Hatred is a slow poison that kills everything it touches, eventually turning inward and destroying even the one who harbors it. " Hear that Sauron, and Morgoth? If people ask: "What are you thinking?" The answer: "Nothing, really. Just little things I need to do." It's usually (surprisingly often) technically not a lie, and even better, it can usually be elaborated on quite easily, and convincingly. Is it true what they say Free our minds and find a way Fear is withering the soul We just can't stop believing because we have to try More wierd quotes - "How is it that he can reduce me to tears as if I still were an elfling eager for his approval!" he thought angrily, dazzled and disoriented by the haughty, determined, irate lord before him, barely comprehending that his world was crumbling down and that his own father was not against bitter retaliation They studied each other in silence, and finally Finrod lowered his gaze, ashamed of his own defiance yet hurt by his father's ruthlessness. When there's a shadow near, reach for the sun If you really want to, you can hear me say If you really want to you can seize the day When there's a journey to follow the star I love this LOTR passage (not mine) "My friends and honored guests, I have called a secret council this eve to discuss a matter of great importance with you. It is my wish that all information discussed here remain within these walls." Mithrandir paused and took a deep breath then began. "As you well know, a girl of peculiar appearance and mannerisms was discovered in the forest of Greenwood by Prince Legolas two fortnights ago. Since I have arrived and was made aware of her presence, I have researched her and her purpose ceaselessly. My efforts proved fruitless time and time again and I lost nearly all hope of gaining knowledge on this matter. However, to my great fortune, nigh short of two hours ago, I found a most disturbing piece of information regarding young Raveyn and her purpose here." All that is gold does not glitter; Hope is a light in the darkness Again, Mithrandir paused to allow this to sink in. "For those of you unfamiliar with the great legends of old, please permit me to give a brief explanation. In an ancient book of olden times, there is a tale that tells of a race created before the elves. A race created behind the back of Ilúvatar by none other than..." In Britain, corn is wheat, not maize or sweet corn. I wouldn't be upset if you evaluate my choice in favourite stories either (I'd love to hear your oppinions because they are carefully hand-picked). Do you find them as worthwhile as I think they are? |
