This is going to be a series of one-shots that explore moments in the relationship as it develops over the years. Some will expand on scenes from the series, and others will be fill-ins for what happened off screen. Some angst, of course, but humor, too. And you know there will be H/C at some point. When Greg Lestrade meets Sherlock Holmes, the brilliant young detective seems to have left his past as a drug addict far behind. But when one of their cases pitches Sherlock headlong into a relapse, Greg is determined not to lose him – whatever the cost to himself. - A canon-compliant piece of backstory, set pre-series.

Begins in the month after the wedding, and goes to the end of HLV. Follows Something Broken but will stand alone. One caution: Not everything is what it seems in the beginning. Sherlock would add: It's dangerous to draw conclusions without sufficient data. There were a lot of motives left unexplained in the broadcast episode. This story's point is to fix that.

Sequel to Quarantine. Sherlock and Molly are upsetting everyone since they formed a connection (love) in the lab, they have scuttled back to their safety zones and taken on gargantuan workloads to assuage their longings. Silly, silly people - you have made the Universe very angry, and when the Universe is out of balance, it will do anything to make things right. Happy ever after? X

Nothing ever turns out the way you hope, even when you have every intention of doing the right thing. No-one knows this better than the Holmes family as they all deal with the repercussions of James Moriarty's game.

"The truth is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution." Post-HLV, Sherlock and John have a conversation.

"Let me get this straight." Lestrade groaned as he surveyed the damage. "You took out half the cameras in London, 'borrowed' three cars, and knocked out half my team just because you were playing some convoluted cops and robbers game with Mycroft?"

When a quiet night of research at Barts hospital turns out to be the mere prelude to a kidnapping nightmare, Sherlock makes himself useful in an unexpected way, and Molly almost finds herself wishing that he hadn't. Almost. Hurt/Comfort, Casefic and tentative Sherlolly romance.

In the aftermath of Magnussen's death, a few things need realigning in the mind palace of Sherlock Holmes. Deals with the aftermath of His Last Vow and the undetermined resurrection of one James Moriarty. Angst like whoa, as they say.

Regency AU- Sherlock Holmes prefers London to the country, so he isn't happy about spending a summer with his family at their country estate. He hopes that some beekeeping will keep him entertained. "Sir, there's a mortician here to see you about a dead man." Mycroft Holmes, Molly Hooper and the beginning of a beautiful (odd) friendship. Backstory of sorts for "There's Always Something." There's a reason why Mycroft has to use his exercise equipment more often these days. And there's a reason why Molly walks the streets without fear these days. It's an odd friendship and even Sherlock can't fathom it, but it works for them...until Mycroft makes the fatal mistake of underestimating a certain Molly Hooper.

"I once said that caring is not an advantage. And yet, here I am." - After the disaster at Appledore, Mycroft Holmes contemplates Sherlock's future (or lack thereof). Sherlock himself has very little to say on the matter. A missing moment from "His Last Vow". Drama, Angst, a lot of Hurt and very little Comfort. Rated T for references to suicide.

After S3. Lestrade wants to celebrate Sherlock's quick return from exile by taking him & others to a pub. Sherlock is less than thrilled. Things get interesting when Lestrade convinces Anderson to relate his original theory about how the detective faked his death years before. London is in the midst of a heat wave and Molly decides to teach Sherlock a thing or two in the kitchen. Meanwhile, Sherlock reveals a new case that he's working on and asks for Molly's help. Partially inspired by a scene in Labor Day. Set between S3E2 and S3E3.

There are some deductions he cannot make however, because he doesn't, and probably never will understand the human heart, beyond its ventricles and atria, and the continual thud thud, thud thud, that carries on from birth until death.

Sherlock and John are both on record as believing the other to be "the best and wisest man" he has ever known. In this story John demonstrates his wisdom by asking something very particular of Sherlock, and Sherlock demonstrates a bit of his own with his answer. Oh, and he solves a murder, too. Set between A Scandal in Belgravia and The Hound of Baskerville.

Sherlock Holmes has always considered himself married to his work; there's no room in his life for a woman. But over the course of a year, his opinion might change.

On holiday in Northumberland, John and Sherlock discover there are more things going on than are listed in the tourist's guide. What exactly is the dog doing in the night-time? How is the cormorant important? And how difficult is it to avoid drowning in a tidal current?

She reads it through a couple of times, just to make certain that she's not grasping at straws, that she's not seeing coded messages where there is, in reality, a painfully lonely person sitting in a dingy room desperate for someone to love them.

SPOILERS FOR HIS LAST VOW: Now that her engagement is over, Sherlock wishes to indulge in his long-held desire to pursue Molly Hooper. But recent developments- such as his revived drug habit and gunshot wound- makes the process difficult. (Sherlock/Molly, Mary/John)

John and Sherlock indulge in some whiskey, do some soul-searching and reflect on love and heartbreak during one long, illuminating evening at 221B.

All John and Mary Watson wanted was a nice evening out; the functionality of the pink nappy bag, the three vengeful gunmen, and the unpleasant revisit to the past had not exactly been on their game plan. On the bright side, at least the baby was safe with Sherlock... Right?

A quiet car zooms down a dark country road, bound for London, away from a nightmare.

Mycroft had once again forced them to take a case, and John was certain nothing could surprise him. But finding himself in a parallel universe and meeting John Watson, the consulting detective, and Bill Holmes, his best friend, did. AU. Post-Reunion, season 3 disregarded.

The facts of the case are this: One Wednesday, John Watson wakes up with a cold. Two weeks later, he does not wake up at all. It's the interim, of course, that makes the difference. OR: In which John dies, but the death doesn't stick as neatly as it's supposed to.

Molly Hooper is back in London after a brief sojourn in New York. But she has brought with her a skinny, overbearing, overweening "new friend," whom Sherlock likes not at all. But what if Sherlock- or Molly, for that matter- has met their match? What if Loki won't leave? John is amused, Sherlock is horrified, and Mary suspects she could sell tickets: Let the Ponce-Off Commence!

When Sherlock insults Molly and she's finally had enough of him, he has to figure out a way to win her back.When he goes to her flat, however, he is interrupted by a call from Lestrade, wanting him to come work on a case that really hits home for Sherlock, and he has to balance his feelings for Molly while trying to solve it. When Molly gets involved, things get interesting.

To kill a snake, you must cut off its head. But that can't kill a hydra. Cut off a head and more grow in its place. And so, to kill a hydra you must cut out the heart. Or burn it. Sherlock Holmes, with his international reputation and homeless network, was a snake. Kill him and his body dies, too. Crime, however, was a hydra. Criminals, its heads. And Jim Moriarty, its heart.

Set after S3 . Molly is hurt by the fact that Sherlock didn't bother to say goodbye properly to her before leaving, assuming he'd never see them again. She's ready to change their dynamic and make sure he can't mistreat her anymore. But Sherlock ends up feeling guilty, and offers to do something unusual to make up for the hurt he caused. A drunken Sherlock accidentally (?) ends up in Molly Hooper's flat. Some interesting conversations and confessions follow, because in vino veritas. And suddenly Molly uses a phrase Sherlock has heard before. – Spoilers S3, T to be safe.

A retired D.I. gives a recovered addict a job, and a home, and a reason to smile. Then he insists she dye her hair, and disappears three times a day into the woods. This is no simple act of charity. Sherlock and Molly discuss what constitutes his "type." She makes a compelling argument, but Sherlock doesn't give up his position easily. Sherlock is beginning to change his views on interpersonal relationships. (Or the one where Sherlock Holmes has a crush on Molly Hooper's dimples) Pre-Sherlolly.

In a bid repair his image and win back public confidence following the Magnussen mess, Sherlock is forced by Mycroft to give an interview to a popular weekend magazine. As the interviewer gets progressively more personal in a bid to know "the man beneath the hat", Sherlock tries harder to downplay his true thoughts and feelings – to the detriment of certain personal relationships.

In solving a mystery in the country, Sherlock and John uncover more secrets than they expect, nearly at the cost of their own lives. Druids, a cipher, and archaic treasures add up to madness and death. "How much will you give? It demands a great toll" What will John and Sherlock have to pay to discover the truth of the Highgrove Ritual?

He might not want a goldfish of his own, but that doesn't mean Mycroft can't appreciate one of Sherlock's. Not when she keeps his brother out of trouble and keeps him in baked goods.

John Watson is curious. (Post season 3). Sherlock is back from the dead and has a shiny, new, in-house laboratory; John has a new baby and Molly Hooper has a (temporary) new address. An awful lot of "new-ness" - a strange and unsettling time for John. There is something strange about Mr. Holmes - something new, bizarre and - beautiful. Help John - he s looking for clues.

Sherlock is bored and, though he won't admit it, lonely without John Watson. At the prompting of Molly Hooper, he takes what appears to be an open-and-shut case of spousal infidelity. Molly's engagement is over. She ended it. As she takes off her ring for the last time, she reflects on the man who led her to this decision, the ridiculousness that is love at first sight, and why, after all these years, she still loves Sherlock Holmes.

"A silent night, I know its gonna be joy to the world but its gonna be sad for me" Post-Reunion. Tragedy strikes the good doctor and things seem to be falling apart just in time for Christmas. Sherlock desperately tries to save his flatmate from himself and get his best friend back. That is, until Sherlock's own life is in danger and John must rescue him instead.

"His brother was a pirate, a dragon slayer, a stupid little boy. Never a murderer." Mycroft sees Sherlock for the first time since the events at Appledore, and the last time before he sends him on his fatal mission. A missing scene from HLV where the Holmes brothers find a way to say goodbye.

Sherlock just wanted to do something nice for the baby, but a simple phone call leads him and the Watsons back to his parent's cottage, where Mr. and Mrs. Holmes welcome the little girl as their own.

John Watson is a Speedy's barista, Mycroft is addicted to poppy seed muffins, and Sherlock is on drugs. Sounds funny, but isn't. I took the silliest possible plot prompt and made it serious. Better than it sounds (I hope). Non-slash

Lying in the hospital, Sherlock receives some surprising visitors, and manages to deal with two problems he's been having lately. A missing scene from HLV about a formal introduction that was never made and a visit that was never shown.

Jim pays a respectful visit to Baker Street. [A quick little oneshot, a companion to Black Glass, with massive spoilers for Vow.]

She stands on tip toes on the rail around the counter, leaning so far over the bar to speak to the bartender that Sherlock grabs the back of her dress to keep her from falling.

Two weeks after his flatmate's miraculous return, John sees the scars from his interrogation. The friends share a heart-to-heart and try to move on.

To be fair, Sherlock knows that what he's about to do is more than a Bit Not Good. After all, he's stealing Molly Hooper's wedding limo. With Molly inside it. In her wedding dress. On her wedding day. But even he can't predict the outcome when you mix Molly, mayhem and Elvis Presley's greatest hits. How will the Runaway Bride and the Great Detective get along? Shameless foof.

As is always the case when it comes to Molly it is just the right thing at just the wrong time.

It's nearing Christmas and John has a surprise visitor, one that leads to heartache and loss. Sherlock does what he does best. Set approximately ten months after Mary Morstan Watson's death.

Sherlock has returned, but things are not back to normal at Baker Street just yet. Both men are under the impression that neither of them are forgiven for their respective actions which led to Sherlock's 'fall', and this is something which has to be resolved before life at 221B can ever return to normal.

'I know you for real,' John told Sherlock once. In this story, set between the first and second seasons, John comes by some of that hard-won knowledge. With a monster storm taking aim at England and a murderer on the loose, John and Sherlock pursue the killer into the sewers of London. What they find there is more terrifying than any human threat and could cost them their lives.

Sherlock Holmes is alive again, and Molly Hooper can see that something has changed him profoundly. As she begins to realize that the change in his behavior is mostly evidenced in his interactions with her, she also starts to suspect that she has more to do with the cause of his transformation than she would ever have imagined - even if she doesn't know how or why.

Pure unadulterated fluff-warm-up written before completing the next chapter of "True Slytherin." Family silliness regarding Sherlock and Big Brother, and an entirely new form of sibling rivalry.

If Molly Hooper were a case, Sherlock Holmes would have just come to the disturbing realization that there was a possibility that his incomplete research had led to a wrongful conviction. Left alone in Molly's flat, Sherlock's exploration and the discoveries he makes challenge his previously held notions and assumptions about the woman who helped him cheat death.

If there is one thing the John hates it's that sometime it's the little things he can no longer do. Like watch his friend lit up by the brightest explosions Guy Fawkes has to offer.

Sherlock returns, but his friendship with John is damaged. Nevertheless, they embark on their final hunt to finish off Moriarty's net, but it ends in a catastrophe: Sherlock is shot and lapses into a coma. As John keeps vigil, he reads Sherlock's diary written during the hiatus. Slowly, he begins to understand and finds himself wishing for another miracle. Completed.

After the fall, John continues to text Sherlock, refusing to move on with his life while he's still holding onto the hope that his best friend could be alive. Sherlock always types out a reply, even though he never sends them, not willing to tell John the truth about his apparent 'death'. It's only a matter of time before one of them gives in.

Or the one where Molly Hooper blindly walks in on Sherlock Holmes and a house guest. After which Sherlock royally screws up and then some. Molly finds she's equal parts fond and exasperated of the man.

John Watson was used to many things other people would consider strange; but to wake up in a dark street and meet a young drug addict who looked eerily familiar wasn't one of them. AU, Post-Reunion.

Sherlock is assaulted by an unknown assailant while John is away, leaving him with a severe brain injury. While his intellect and personality are intact, he's having trouble moving and speaking easily. John finds himself as the main source of support to a flatmate struggling to do the things he loves most. And Sherlock Holmes has never been the best of patients.

A-Z one-shots of hurt/comfort stories between Sherlock and John. Perhaps Sherlock doesn't realise just how much he needs John. Or vice versa, for that matter. They are always there for each other, though of course, their friendship isn't without its obstacles and difficulties.
