Well i don't like revealing much about myself, especially over the internet, but i am an aspiring writer. Most of my projects fall apart just as quickly i can think them up, one of the things i attempt to work on by writing fanfiction. The thing is with fan fiction you don't have to think up your own character, but i do suggest dabbiling in OC's so you can work on character development and all that, or your own plot line half the time, all you got to do is twist the story and add your own element that makes the story the same yet entirely different.

For example i know of this naruto fanficiton where naruto dukes it out with sasori instead of sakura changing enough of the story. hell if you can come up with a convincing way, you can just drop the power in their lap and make a whole third of the story about them trying to master using that power. The thing about it is fanfiction can show you just how much a series of events could change from one little alteration. To me stories that pull that off are some of the best. Other then that stories that have a great story line are also in my book as great so yeah.
