I got my name from Shakespeare's Othello. I've been a reader here since I was twelve. Anyway, I will tell you:

I'm twenty years old. I study German and Chinese in college. I love to read, travel and write, but mostly read. I'm a sucker for worldbuilding, politics, culture clash and space operas.

My favorite series are Harry Potter, The entire Rick Riordan mythology universe, and the Worm series by Wildbow. I just read The Player of Games from the Culture series and loved it. As for single books: I can't think of any right now. Most of my favorite characters come from series.

As for TV: I loved Avatar:The Last Airbender, Legend of Korra, Yuri! On Ice and Black Lagoon. But the one fandom that I have never escaped, even though it's supposed to be for 12-year-old girls, is Winx Club. It's an adventure story about fairies that takes place on different planets and a struggle between good and evil, friendship and love and etc...but the idea of magic and interplanetary travel has always hooked me back in every time I've tried to leave.

And now I'm writing a high school drama/hero story/space opera(?) with another writer here. Hell if I know what I'm doing.

I wrote my first story when I was six years old. This story happened to be a fanfiction. It's fate that I'm here, then, isn't it?

I read fanfiction from Harry Potter, A Song of Ice and Fire, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Legend of Korra, Yuri! On Ice (I've been on a kick lately) and Percy Jackson/Magnus Chase.

I refuse to read any Twilight fanfiction except for Luminosity by Alicorn.

I've written so many fanfictions in my life, most of which I abandoned. I've only posted a few things. I'm only writing one story for Winx with PierceTheVeils right now, but I've written stories for Lackadaisy Cats (the webcomic), Harry Potter, Alex Rider, Twilight and other fandoms.

On Mary-Sues:

There will be no bashing of female/male characters on this page, and I refuse to write off a canon character as a Mary-Sue (and then forget about them) simply because I dislike her or am jealous. I will try to give a sensitive interpretation to every character I write for.

My definition of Mary-Sue is this: a character who is talented so far above and beyond the capabilities of the other characters as to make them superfluous and to interfere with the narrative. This is an issue with realism, and not an issue with the characters, and so we should take this up politely with the writer if we see a problem.

Note: Since these issues are subjective, seeing signs of a Mary-Sue and outing a character as one doesn't make them one. They only are when the author wrote them with the intention of not giving them any flaws – or what they think of as flaws.

Mary–Sues often come out of a need for self-fulfilment, and manifest in the form of idealized versions of the author. They usually are created by young writers who don't yet know how to create unique characters. The best thing you can do to help is take the issue up politely, calmly and helpfully, giving tips. If they don't listen, then ignore them. They'll probably leave or improve eventually anyway, when they grow bored with their shallow characters.

On Twilight:

Man, Edward can go die in deep space (or at least go to several sessions of therapy.) I will gladly take Bella in for counseling, to hopefully teach her to show some respect for herself and for her human loved ones.

Pet Peeves: Inspired by Akela Victoire's Fanfiction Pet Peeves

1- Fanbrats: Call them Stans, call them flamers or anything else. These are the people who cannot take constructive criticism; who respond with a flood of swearing when anyone points out the slightest problem with their story. Sticking with your story is one thing, but go to far and you miss out on growth.

2- Bad Spelling, Grammar Issues: Bad grammar and spelling ruins the flow of a story, and unless the problems are few and far between and the plot is just that good, I will not be able to read it. You spent so much time writing a story; why won't you make sure it appears in the best light?

3- Self-inserts: This goes for both OCs and canon characters. I want to read a story about the character, not you and your personal influences. Yes, it's okay to add a little background, but if the character is suddenly religious, flippant and a ballet dancer with no proper grounding in canon, and I read on your profile that you're religious, flippant and a ballet dancer, I'm just going to stop reading. And if your OC is just like you (and takes up a lot of the plot, instead of just being in there for fun), I'll start to think that you care more about your own fantasies of being in the story than the story itself. I get it; I really do. But if you're going to write a self-insert, do it offline and don't post it here, at least if you want positive reviews.

4- Mary-Sues: My definition may be a little different than others', so I'll explain. A Mary-Sue is a character that has no flaws and is able to do anything to the point of making the rest of the cast superfluous. I think the rules about Sues are harsher for women than they are for men. I think we're too quick to disbelieve when we see a female character who is attractive, self-actualized and competent, because we're too harsh on ourselves (most fic writers are female, after all). I don't mind successful, attractive, exciting female characters at all! I love them. It's just when a character starts to eclipse the entire plot and break reality with their flawlessness and general power that I call her/him a Sue. Oh, and sometimes Sues can be good. If you make everyone else just as powerful and amazing as they are, evening the playing field, then the story might actually be good (though not very nuanced).

5- Lack of Research: In the information age, ignorance is a choice...unless you are in an information blackout. If so, mention it, and you will be forgiven.

6- Don’t Like, Don’t Read: Yeah. That's a steaming pile of bad logic. How am I supposed to give you constructive criticism if I don't read your story? That defeats the entire purpose of the site.

7. People who review just to ask you for updates, and people who alert your stories and never. say. anything. In the end, I just feel cheated. I put all that work into a story; can't you help me improve and give me some motivation to continue?

Although I am a bad writer of fanfiction, I am a good reviewer and do so consistently. These are my top picks for fics.

Brothers at Arms by tears-in-rain AND Band of Brothers by tears-in-rain (Winx Club) - The story, "Brothers At Arms," is Winx Club, Season One, from the boys' point of view. It's engaging, detailed and witty, showing what they go through, how they grow and what they think. It even expands on things that the Winx do in the show that are not explained. The writing is good to start with but improves as it goes on. The sequel, "Band of Brothers," is just as good.

Also: try The Great Witch Rebellion by tears-in-rain, another great Winx fic. It's an AU of what would have happened if Bloom had lost the last battle in Season 1 between her and Icy. It goes into the resulting capture of the three Magix schools and the rebellion, led by a witch. It's a war story and I love it.

Lethal Secrets by TheUlmuri (Alex Rider) - Complete. Realistic. Gen (no pairings) and amazingly hot without any love scenes or romance at all. Just...read.

Last Casualties by muggledad (Harry Potter) - Very literate and true to life. Harry/Hermione pairing. The Potters weren't killed, they were spelled...and now they're back.

The North Remembers by SilverRavenStar (A Song of Ice and Fire)- This fic is really long, really detailed, and continues from A Dance With Dragons in a fashion worthy of GRRM. Read this first.

Ned Stark Lives! by cbstevp (A Song of Ice and Fire) - Complete, has an ongoing sequel. Canon Divergence: What would happen if Ned Stark lived? Very very good.
