Currently working on Once More With Feeling. Other stories are on indefinite hiatus until I get that plot bunny out of my head.

Notes on OMWF: I wanted to explore the idea of time travel, a realistic Sev romance, and female Harry. I tried really hard to separate those out, but I'm just terrible at writing more than one story at once. So I took a highly-traumatized Harriet and threw her in there.

Questions:

Why isn't she trying to follow the original plot?

-Because she doesn't remember it. I mean, I have no idea what I said to people I met when I was ten or eleven. I barely remember people I knew back then, much less the exact thing I might have said to piss them off/endear them to me. More than that, as a writer, it's hard to write about the same scene as Rowling; she's a much better writer than I am, and I end up either copying her, or feeling like I shouldn't even bother writing at all. Much better to go somewhere entirely different, where I can find my own words for things.

Why doesn't Harriet just go talk to Dumbledore/other helpful people?

-In her original timeline, most of her allies were dead, and she blames herself. It would be like seeking out a ghost- not something that most people would do. Also, Harriet doesn't know everything that original Harry knew; she has no idea, for example (small spoiler), that Severus was in love with her mother.

Why wasn't Voldemort dead by the time Harriet was 27?

-Primarily because I wanted to write someone who was just not right in the head anymore. Frankly, I want to balance out adult maturity with something, and insanity is an option that I generally enjoy reading, when it's done right. Also, I am female IRL and I know that we're treated differently- I think that Dumbledore would have been far more protective of a Harriet than a Harry. I mean, Dumbledore practically pushes Harry into dangerous situations, but I don't think he would have done that to a girl. And the problem with that is that it was precisely that reckless disregard for Harry's life that ended up defeating Voldemort time and time again. Think about it- if someone avoided burning Quirrel, didn't go to the ministry, and didn't purposefully allow Voldemort to kill them, Voldemort would have prevailed. So I think that a Harriet would have over and over again taken the less risky move, and the war would have taken a lot longer.

Why do you have to write a time-travel? Why not just write a girl-who-lived?

Becaaause... I suck at writing children. I've never thought like a child, so writing a convincing child would be very difficult for me. Maybe someday in the future I will do that, but right now, I think writing adult perspectives is certainly hard enough to provide a challenge.

Is Once More With Feeling a Buffy reference?

Yes. Though I realize that episode wasn't about time travel. Still, the main character was brought back to life and isn't quite sure how to cope.

Why do you have so many Murakami quotes?

Because he's so quotable. Also, I just finished 1Q84 and it made me want to write something psychedelic.

Who was Harriet in a relationship with Before/who was Siri's father?
