Hi there, fannish world,

I'm a super-shy reader of Avatar: the last airbender, Harry Potter, Supernatural, SG-1/A, Star Wars, Firefly, Criminal Minds, and random other fandoms. I love crossovers and fusions, but only when I'm very familiar with one of the fandoms/canons and passably fluent in the other(s). And yet, tend to be a serial monogamist; am now immersed in Avatar fic and not really reading much of the others. Before this HP, before that SPN and SG, before that HP again, etc, ... SW: TPM was my first love, fannishly speaking.

Am trying to get better at reviewing, but between RSI and social anxiety please understand this isn't always so easy; quiet people sometimes want to be able to participate in online fandom in quiet ways, even when we know most authors enjoy a 'hey i liked this' (some, however, mock and insult people who post short reviews as stupid or as wasting the author's time. This plus anxiety plus not having the concentration/energy to read profiles, ANs etc for each story to figure out whether author would welcome a superficial review, concrit, one but not the other i am exhausted just thinking about this= fewer reviews).

The Kudos button on AO3 was invented for people like me! equivalent: If I fave a story, I like it and want to re-read and let others know about it. If I put it on story alert, I am hooked and want to read updates and will probably fave, if I remember to do so. If I subscribe to an author, it means I like their output enough to want to read more in known fandoms and quite possibly to explore some new ones. I really enjoy the story alert profile section; no matter what kind of day I'm having, finding new fic there cheers me up immensely. Thanks, authors I have been too shy to thank individually! As well as those I have thanked in reviws/pms! I look forward to your stories!

I love reading people's favorites because it links me to quality stories and authors in my fandom(s). Wish there was a category sort function for favorite authors. Grammar and diction:

Little typos are forgivable. Using a similar but incorrect word (relevant/reverent, canon/cannon, gouges/gorges is one I've seen a lot lately), especially repeatedly, not so much. Apostrophes have rules, people! And betas are awesome! And so are writers who can take concrit gracefully.

Most of all, peeviest of peeves: I HATE it when an author is anti-canon *without seeming to know it*!

I don't mean modern/steampunk/sci-fi AUs, ARs, crossovers, fusions and whatnot which are clearly labeled and/or stories in which the character has a reason for being jarringly out of universe-canon. I also don't mean alternate takes on their emotional reality, or fluffy humor.

I mean thoughtlessly having Aang the vegetarian monk eat meat or fish, without it being a plot point. Because you just never bothered to realize he's a vegetarian who probably would not wear pelts either (yes, I am a former vegetarian and vegan. It shows?). Or people in the Avatar universe eating with western silverware, having names like Vivian and Eric, wearing ballgowns like Disney princesses, etc. Have been noticing this most in Avatar since HP has a muggle world which is essentially ours, and things set in the western world's present or a vague future don't obviously exclude so much. But still, in HP this would be like purebloods having TVs and iPods at home for no reason; not before we knew Sirius was pb, not postwar Draco leaving the WW, just randomly there. No one would have the Malfoys using chopsticks or computers randomly, why make Katara tell Sokka to use his knife and fork? (Exception: humor. If it's a silly, ridiculous story anyways it remains entertaining)

This probably bothers me so much because it just throws me out of the story completely and I barely even have the will to go on, even if it's otherwise interesting and well-written. And because when done well I really love it when writers play with the world, with crossovers, mirrorverses, ARs as well as alternate takes on the universe due to plot point or character's internal motivation/makeup shifting. Or on the flipside, when they go really in-depth with vivid and intense worldbuilding based only in the existing canon. I love culture-clashes and finding out what makes each culture tick and how characters navigate this rich world. When it's done right it is so so right but when it goes wrong it just kills the whole experience.
