Survived another surgery and managed to finally get one of my stories updated.

I'm continuing to work on the other tales and hope that you will all continue to be patient with me. As always - thank you for your time and allowing me to continue to share my stories with you all.

I know you haven't heard from me in awhile - and unfortunately that is due to medical reasons that are making long-hand writing and typing rather painful. But I am working toward finding the right combination of meds to make things tolerable again. Not to mention attempting DragonSpeak and other fun toys...but these things take time...so please bear with me.

Meanwhile I find myself wanting to at least note a rather disturbing trend I am finding more and more these days and it - in my humble opinion - makes the stabbing pain worth it to get my thoughts out there.

Today another author on this site has decided to roll up their practice of updating a chapter at a time because of folks who seem to think that the reviewing feature on the site is meant as their permission slip to berate and abuse those whose only intentions have been to share their inner most imaginations with us all. This act of flaming is something that claims more and more victims and with each author who leaves or alters how they post these cyber bullies - for there are no other apt names for them - gain steam and continue on to bulldoze others whose writing does not match their narrow minded views of what makes a story.

THIS NEEDS TO STOP

In most cases, these Flamers are entering into stories which are clearly marked in their summaries specifying the type of story matter being covered. If these flamers truly meant half of what they state in the barbed words of their 'reviews' then they never should have entered the stories to begin with!!

All types of writers should have the right to post their creative works here...regardless of subject matter...and if you find a story offensive to you then that is fine - leave the story...go find another that will better match your views on the world.

The review feature in this forum should be used for what it was originally intended - to review and critique a writer's story mechanics...not to bombast them for their choice of topics or plot line.

This community should be about allowing folks to share their love of writing and love of topic. It should be for aiming to improve the art of writing so that those stories that are oh so bright and brilliant in our heads can be just as bright and brilliant on the written or typed page.

Now if the work is also poorly written within the mechanics of story, then review by all means - but with the aim of helping the reader improve their art...not to bash their choice of topic or plot. NOT to make them feel that they have no right to write their hearts.

Writing is a personal art...much like sculpting or painting...as we are putting pieces of our very souls out into the universe for all to see. Whether those words are completely an original idea, or building on another artists' works - such as we do here on FanFiction - the courage that it takes to share them here with complete strangers is paramount to facing the Zombie Apocalypse unarmed. Every word of review received, therefore, has the ability to build us up or, conversely, to tear us down.

Words are powerful...and misplaced words can wound. Everyone on this site should recognize this fact.

So I have a message for the Flamers: Channel your anger into something more creative...don't like a story? Write one of your own!

You seem to think that you can do better than the others around you - well show us! Some of you might find it harder than you thought - and may receive your own toxic reviews from other Flamers...but you will also undoubtedly receive critique in the truest sense of the word from writers which will gently guide you to better word forms and sentence structures. And occasionally praise for work well done.

And I also have a few words for my fellow writers: Haters will always hate. Flamers will always flame. But more importantly - writers will always write...we have no choice. And if you are truly a writer then you understand this much more than those around you.

It is a burning desire to get the thoughts and ideas swimming in our minds out into the world - so that they can live on independent of the trappings of our heads. And yes - there will be those out there who will never understand why you write what you write - but there will also always be those out there who read your words and do what we strive to have them do...they will feel what you write down to the tips of their toes. They will smile at the images your words wove in their minds. They will cry with you, laugh with you, fear with you, strive with you, fail or succeed with you. You have the power to make someone whose day came close to crushing them escape - at least for a little while - into another realm. But only if you write those words and share them without fear.

If the barbed words sway you - then they have won.

Do as I have learned to do...don't read the reviews when they start to turn you against the very thing that writers need to survive...you must write - and you must share...because until your words are set free they will never reach their full potential.

And with that said I will step down from my soap box -

Feel free to ignore my words - or share them around if you so desire - but know that you will always have a fan in me the moment you post your heart and soul for the world - and this site - to share.

(and for the record - this took just under 2 hours to write - and more pain than I'd like to admit- but I wrote it...so imagine how long my chapters are taking to write and know that the updates are coming - just a hell of a lot slower than I ever wanted! I ask for patience.)
