Dragonball Z

Raditz's Return - Dragoness Eclectic

This, along with its sequel are some of the very first fanfictions I ever read, and are probably the only Dragonball Z fanfictions I would ever recommend. Explorations of Japanese, Hindu and Norse mythology abound, and Raditz finally gets his day in the sun.

Evangelion

Alpha and Omega - by Xed Alpha

This is the sequel that Evangelion deserves. This is the sequel that Mass Effect deserves. The characterisation is better than the original series - for both of them. The action is intense, the emotions are intense, the whole god damn book is intense. Just read it.

Harry Potter

A Black Comedy - by nonjon

Harry and Sirius pal around as brothers and very childish noble lords, in a world where voldemort was never defeated, but he's really more of a nuisance than anything. Absolutely hilarious. Probably the funniest fanfiction I have ever read, but it's also thick with plot. Highly recommended.

A Matter of Force - by ContraBardus (RIP)

This is a little closer to a crackfic than most of my recommendations. But ContraBardus meant a lot to me, and I think he deserves a place among my recommendations. Rule of cool is the name of the game here, and it doesn't take itself too seriously.

Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality - by Less Wrong

This is the book I'm going to give to my children, and tell them that it is Harry Potter. A million billion times better than canon ever was, and shame on you for not having already read it.

Harry Potter and the Natural 20 - by Sir Poley

This one does unfortunately seem to be dead, but what is finished is more than worth reading. At least on par with Darth & Droids, for those that are aware of it. A great introduction to the levels of munchkinry tabletop gaming is capable of, and hilarious besides. Great satire, very clever writing.

The Pureblood Pretense - by murkybluematter

Harriet Potter, aspiring potions mistress, goes to the pureblood exclusive Hogwarts by assuming the identity of her cousin, Rigel Black. Currently in it's fourth book. I can't do this one justice with a summary, just take my word for it that this series wont let you down.

Firefly

Browncoat, Green Eyes - by nonjon

This is the sequel that Firefly deserved. It feels exactly like the series continued, and Harry Potter both fits perfectly and makes it even more Firefly. Normally I hate crossover fics, and I've never found a single other Firefly fanfiction worth the time of day, but this is absolutely sublime. A must read if you're a Firefly fan.

Cheaters Prosper - by drakensis

Short and silly. And funny af.

Déjà vu no Jutsu - by Vixen Tail

Probably the most complete SI fic I've ever read. Original, believable, and plausible. Goes into great depth about the inner working of the lives of ninja's, and actually bothers to explain why someone was reincarnated in the first place. If you're writing an SI, you need to read this first.

Naruto's Compensation - by DisobedienceWriter

The single best puppeteer story I've ever read. Better than canon in some respects.

Scorpion's Disciple - by nobody102

The second best puppeteer story I've ever read.

Time Braid - by ShaperV

Chunin Exam Day except it actually has a plot. If you like training arcs, time loops or Sakura, this is the fic for you.

Unfortunate Events - by Lonewalker

Short and sweet. Uchiha SI that really doesn't want to be here. Dark.

Ranma 1/2

Heir to the Empire - by Ozzallos

Ranma Saotome is the reincarnated soul of Queen Serenity. Again, it's much better than it sounds.

The Best of Times - by Ozzallos

Ranma Saotome finds out exactly why his life sucks - Sailor Pluto. Has to be read to be believed.

Sailor Moon

Gaijin - by ContraBardus (RIP)

Formatting issues and general meandering of the plot aside, this is a pretty decent fic. Ostensibly set in sailor moon, but a hell of a lot of the cast end up being marvel characters. The MC is both Spiderman, and Tony Stark, and Sailor Moons long lost brother, and a regular guy who just wants to be left alone. Somehow, it all makes sense.
