I am Vanilla Jester, and my main FanFic interests are cantered around Harry Potter. I will mainly be writing fics based in that universe, and with those characters, though I do have some other ideas percolating at the back of my mind for Batman, amongst others.

My main aim when writing will be to chart alternate courses through the lives of the characters choose I write about, and to explore ideas for things that could potentially be developed, invented or altered - in universe - and made use of by those characters.

I am very, very firmly in favour of shipping Harry and Hermione, though I do feel a case can be made for Harry and Luna, Harry and Daphne Greengrass, and Harry and Fleur. I don't feel that Hermione has very many good options for romance besides Harry, and never supported the epilogue pairings. Some crack pairings seem to exist solely to make me fee ill.

I'm not particularly in favour or against bashing certain characters. Sometimes it makes or adds to a story being entertaining. If I include bashing specific characters in a story I will flag such in the summary so that it can be avoided if desired.

I do enjoy stories that make much of Harry's status as a scion of an Ancient and Noble House, the heir to another, and therefore a Lord, though since there's nothing in canon to support his elevation to the gentry. There are things you can do with that plot element that I find very entertaining, but I usually err on the side of canon.

I also like to consider what it should be possible for characters to invent given what's possible in a universe; what tools and spells they have available to them, and what could therefore be developed given the right inspiration.

Currently I'm focused on writing A Little Introspection, my first fanfic. It is a story in which I hope to alter certain choices and events to conform to what I see as the ideal course Harry could have taken through the events of the books. I will be making use of things I can directly point to as existing in canon, and things I feel I can reasonably extrapolate as having existed or been possible based on all available evidence.

Characters won't start out as any different from canon, though I hope that the changes I make to their behaviour can be seen to develop naturally from choices they make and their experiences.

Future projects will include wizarding gentry and characters behaving outside their canon personalities.

I'll happily listen to constructive criticism, and debate concepts and ideas with anyone interested. If you don't like the pairings I support or write about, please; remember that you can very easily find something else that caters specifically to your tastes and fancies.

Unreasoning hate and vitriol will probably be ignored, or at most laughed at.

Update 05/08/15: I have been making minor edits to the first two chapters of A Little Introspection. I'm sorry to be a pain to you all, but this is my first story and I've been struggling to make sure what I write is what I mean.

Update 24/02/16: My apologies for such a long period without an update. I can't promise to become regular, so I won't. I will try to update more frequently, and closer together, however.
