I'm getting back into the fanfic business. I haven't stopped fanfiction all together, I just have unfinished fics clogging my documents folder.

About me:

1. I'm a college student. I'm all female, 5ft 2 inch. and 117 lbs of science geek and literature freak. I'm pursuing a career in pathology, so I predict many years of self-induced insomnia and stress ulcers. What little life I have is squeezed between work and school, so updates will be sparse.
2. Hobbies are reading, writing, exercising, piano, dancing and painting. I have an odd fascination with making my own costumes dressing up. Halloween and any project-school or otherwise-that has to do with costumes are oodles of fun for me. It's a wonder that I've never cosplayed before. I hope to change that soon.
3. My favorite books so far are The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck and The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka.
4. My favorite TV series that isn't animated or a cartoon is Stranger Things.
5. My favorite anime series are Princess Jellyfish, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Death Note, and Samurai Champloo.
6. I love too many movies-but to narrow it down: Moonrise Kingdom, The King's Speech, Amelie, Inglorious Basterds, It's Such a Beautiful Day, A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting Existence, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Bench Warmers, Elf, Lion King, and Donnie Darko.
7. I enjoy a lot of music, though indie rock and alternative are my favored genres. A couple of my much loved artists, composers and bands are Pink Floyd, Jimmie Hendrix, Tame Impala, Galimatias & Alina Baraz, Yann Tiersen, and Nujabes. Favorite song of all time is Year of the Cat by Al Stewart.

About stories and my writing: I will primarily be writing action/adventure style stories with MAYBE some romance. Romance won't be a central part of the story. I don't do angst or squick fics. A lot of supernatural/fantasy elements are included in much of what I write as well. I also like to change things up, so expect jumps between present/past tense, but no flashbacks or POV Wheel of Fortune. I enjoy coherency in my stories.

Pet peeves:

1. One million jumps of POV, with the POV written above like I couldn't figure it out myself.
2. One paragraph of actual story progression between three pages of flashbacks.
3. Writing canon fanfic with barely any alterations at all and advertising it as 'AU' or canon diversion when it's clearly not. There's an extremely popular Harry Potter fanifc with Harry as a Slytherin that I will not name, that literally has every event and Harry's reaction to said events the same as the original Harry Potter series, just with a different tie and sidekicks for Harry. It drove me nuts.
4. Long blocks of text written in italics. Something about that fucks with my eyes and I will immediately skip ahead or stop reading all together if I see it.
5. Random words that aren't English sprinkled between every sentence in an English fanfic. Biggest offenders are anime fanfics with Japanese. I get it, you're cultured and you totally know all these Japanese words because you watched subbed anime or whatever. I know my fair share of sugoi, kawaii, itai, baka dame yo ect. ect. It's still an English fanfic, and unless the characters are Japanese transfers to America, the UK, or Australia, there's no reason for them to be switching languages all the time. It's implied they're speaking Japanese or whatever the main language in the story is supposed to be. The only times language switch should be used is if you intentionally don't want readers to understand something important to emphasize a character's disorientation or helplessness(in which case use gibberish or the actual letters of the language from google translate or something for dramatic effect), if it's for comedic effect, or if it's a quirk of a character that's unfamiliar to the main language spoken in the story.
6. Character bashing/one dimensional 'villains'. It makes the story boring and predictable, and makes suspension of reality that much more difficult.
7. Mary-Sue's.
8. Grammar. I understand the slip-ups, but it seems as if a lot of people don't even bother with editing.
9. Misuse of words/sentence fluffing. Using large, complicated words doesn't change the quality of your story. Simple sentences can have a profound effect. The most important part of writing is coherency, or else no one has an idea of what's going on and all that time looking words up on becomes moot. Trust me, I know. I've committed this sin. Just look at my first work. So. Many. Mistakes. It did help broaden my vocabulary, though, so if that's all you want to do then have at it.
10. Jumping from A to C, as in jumping from one major plot point to another without anything in between. I like to immerse myself in the world and character you're creating. 'Fluff' or 'filler' chapters that aren't just crack or holiday specials is important for immersion and shaping your world.

What I love:

2. Decent action sequences
3. Attention to detail.
