Author has written 18 stories for Legend of Zelda, Avengers, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Sword Art Online/ソードアート・オンライン, Pokémon, Inside Out, Young Justice, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Rise of the Guardians. Hey there, you may call me Kirlial and I live in the UK. I like reading fanfiction, and I occasionally dabble in writing as well. What sort of stories do I read? Pretty much anything that's good quality and focuses on characters I like. Whenever I discover a new fandom I'm interested in, there tends to be one character I absolutely love and obsess over. My favourite fics will have these characters in a central role and have them being terrific. Some favourite characters: Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians Robin/Dick Grayson from Young Justice Obi-Wan Kenobi from Star Wars (mostly prequels) Loki from Thor Captain America/ Steve Rogers from Avengers Edmund Pevensie from the Chronicles of Narnia Rin from Blue Exorcist Troy Bolton from High School Musical Artemis Fowl from Artemis Fowl Ned Stark from A Song of Ice and Fire Hachiman from My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Peter Petrelli from Heroes 10th Doctor from Doctor Who Megamind from Megamind Tamaki from Ouran High School Host Club Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist (2003 series) Yeah, that's a fairly extensive list and you may note that it includes characters books, TV, Anime and Movies. I'm not really picky about the medium a particular piece of fiction comes from. Interestingly, all these characters are young (mostly) and male for whatever reason. I'm not sure whether that's because of some kind of trend in media resulting in less interesting female characters or more to do with me. Frankly, if I were to write original characters I'd probably want to make them female partly due to being a girl myself. Oh well. As far as shipping goes, there's some ships that don't interest me enough to read but I wouldn't say there's any two characters I ship exclusively together; I like exploring different ships so long as they have a character I like in it. ...Though I might make an exception for Merlin/Morgana and Batman/Catwoman. They're two ships I love far too much. In terms of Slash Pairings, I'm not really into them much. I don't have a problem with slash, it's just that I don't really enjoy reading them much and prefer Het pairings a lot more. I like friendship, non-romantic pieces, more than romance stories as well. I'm pretty pleased with my favourites list. It has over 600 stories, from a plethora of different fandoms. Sort it by category if you want to more easily find the fandom you're interested in and have a look! Seriously, there's some great gems on my favourites list and I'm always looking for more to add. Currently, I have a few stories that are incomplete: An unfortunately exciting new dimension - I love alternate dimension fics in the Harry potter fandom so I thought a Percy Jackson one would be great. In it, Percy lands in a world where he and his friends are villains which leaves him a bit conflicted - courtesy of the goddess of strife Eris whom I've written as a childlike goddess who would do anything for a bit of excitement. Not exactly evil but enjoys conflict and causing strife. Feel free to use the same interpretation of her if you like it. I hope this story will be fun and exciting, hope you'll like it as well. Regrets - It's a story that stemmed from the idea that Zoe came back to life rather than Hazel in Son of Neptune,(I also like canon divergence), it takes place during the lost hero and later Son of Neptune. Originally I wanted it to be Percy/Zoe but I may take it in another direction if I choose to. Abandoned now sadly. Striking - unforgettable - Must think of a better name, it's a crossover between rise of the guardians, Tangled, Brave, How to train your dragon and Harry Potter. With the teens all going to Hogwarts for their first year and set during the fourth book. I also have a couple of one-shots, feel free to check them out. An impossible relationship is essentially just a parody, I get annoyed by the number of Percy/Artemis fics I see and feel they would fail because Artemis is a virgin for life and a real tomboy. Usually in the form of a ten year old girl. Nothing to say about my other one-shots but feel free to ask any questions. My SAO fics are currently Cursed Hero and Reality. Cursed Hero features Silica as the main character but the story is that Kirito is a red player by accident and has to live alone due to the Stigma. In progress and I'd love some feedback for it. Might at some point write a prequel if that interests you. Reality features Kirito immediately after he's got out the game and how he and his sister struggle with everything. There's frustration and a real lack of understanding from everyone. If you have some ideas for another story I may be interested in writing it, feel free to pm me. If you have any feedback or suggestion for my fics then I'd also love to hear it. Oh and if you want me to update then trying PMing me. It be effective. So recently I've been drawn back into the Harry Potter fandom after exploring various anime, it's easy to see why it's the most popular fandom on this site. Anyway my favourites list has over 70 Harry Potter fics (not counting crossovers) and I thought I'd highlight a few of my top favourites again. Back again, Harry? By JediButtercup - It's basically a story where Harry time travels back from where he dies at the end of the seventh book to visiting the mirror of Erised in the first. It's great because the characters feel real and Harry doesn't feel too intelligent but very thoughtful and dealing with many issues. There's some surprising hooks that keep you reading right to the end of this sadly incomplete fic. Unequivocally Unusual By Quantumcat - It's a brilliant Harry/Luna friendship (which there should be at least 100 more of!) story taking place in his second year where he's been abandoned by his friends and finds Luna Lovegood. It demonstrates why her strangeness is so endearing and reminds me why I liked canon Luna so much because it sticks with her characterisation. Sadly it is also incomplete. A Starnger in an Unholy Land By serpant-sorcerer - It's a long somewhat dark story where canon Harry (at the end of fifth year) is teleported to an alternate world where his counterpart is Voldemort's right hand man and so everyone believes him to be a death eater. That doesn't really go into depth of the struggle he has, connecting with his family and struggling to make sense of the new world. Voldemort is extremely clever and his plans are both ruthless and effective, the war feels very real. It is very long and completed, with an incomplete sequel. The Lie I've Lived By jbern - one of the most popular fics in the fandom for a reason, featuring Harry with the memories of his father unearthed at the end of third year. It's funny and the fights are excellent as is the romance with fleur, who is frosty at first but mellows out. It's great to see the kind of person Harry/James grows into as the fic progresses. This is complete though there's no sequel yet. Aren't Little Girls Made of Sugar and Spice? By JaggedEpiphany - Set after deathly Hallows and explores a fun rare-pair of Harry/Alicia Spinnet. The tone is never extremely serious but shows the two characters connecting well and it's just beasically how I could imagine post-Hogwarts being. This story is also incomplete sadly. Hogwarts Battle School By KwanLi - It's completely AU with a very unique Hogwarts that's definitely inspired by Ender's game with tactical battles and duels as well as some intrigue and conflict between the students. Harry and Hermione have some particularly interesting reactions. The story is different and very detailed with likeable characters. It's in progress for now. Harry Potter: The Last Avatar By TheSortingCat - this is actually a minor crossover but I don't know avatar and you certainly don't need to know it to enjoy this fic. The Hogwarts houses represent all the avatar elemental powers and all the characters are benders rather than wizards. It's a great integration of all the avatar elements to create a compelling story with an unpredictable plot. The story explores political issues of the world that's been created as well as describing Harry's tale. Also slowly updating. That's probably an incomplete list but I really did like all these. Feel free to recommend anything similar! Some of my personal Pet Peeves: By pet peeves I mean little things I sometimes come across in fanfics that I find rather annoying personally. They might be things you've never given half a thought to and you might have your own personal peeves that I couldn't care less about. I'm not including general bad writing that everyone hates. -When people write Ok instead of Okay. The shortened form might be appropriate for texting and such but it seems wrong somehow in stories. And it annoys me. -Americanised spelling generally. I know it's not wrong or anything to write certain words differently but that doesn't stop it from distracting me; I imagine some people might get slightly irked at the reverse too. -Suddenly giving a character a nickname. If they usually get one in canon, fine. Or if the person is known for giving people nicknames then that's an exception too. But I don't think I've ever seen a shortening of Hermione I liked. -People in stories actually winning arguments. When in real life have you ever convinced someone that you're correct and they're wrong? It doesn't matter how convoluted or stupid someone's argument is, they are never going to be convinced. If anything they'll begin to hold their view more strongly. Obviously there's certain exceptions where people's opinions can be carefully reforged but it's neither simple or easy as some stories make it seem. -Too much blushing. Especially if the person who blushes is the point of view, it's hard to tell whether you're blushing or not and it's less common in reality than one might expect. -Characters being worked to exhaustion and being given impossible chores which they diligently attempt to complete, and gradually feeling every punishment they receive. That's specific but I've seen it occur in multiple stories from different fandoms and it upsets me anew every time. No character can survive so long without rest so I fully expect such characters to fall asleep and refuse to be reawakened if they're so overworked. -Too many perspective flips in a short amount of words. It's annoying. -Summaries that don't give me any idea of what the story is about. It doesn't have to be much but please more than say: "The world is far from a perfect place for our hero. Will he be able to prevail over the challenges he faces?" Way to tell me absolutely nothing! -Summaries that begin with 'What if' Hey they're pet peeves, not entirely sensible peeves. Instead of saying 'What if Harry had a long lost relative', say 'Harry had a long-lost relative'. I just prefer it. -Time-skips. Like, months or years between chapters. -De-aged fics. I mean when characters are deaged to anything under the age of five. I'm simply not interested in reading about babies in any form. -Short Chapters. Should it matter to me? Probably not, but it does anyway. -First Chapters. Seriously, why do all stories need first chapters? Nothing interesting ever happens in them. (I'm sort of joking but usually the first chapter in a story is a bit of a drag to read). -Character being seriously injured and stuck in a hospital bed for a seemingly endless period of time. The recovery period is far more painful to read about than the part where the character actually gets beaten up in my mind. -Where a character is weak and won't eat and has trouble sleeping, and I have to endure thousands of words focussed on their slow deterioration. There's never sufficient pay off at the end for me to suffer through reading about their pain and all the other character's ignorance. -Nightmares. Occasionally they're okay but usually they just seem to be tools to make a character suffer more. Yeah, if you can't tell from the list, I always approach hurt/comfort fics with extreme caution. They're too ubiquitous to ignore entirely but it's hard to tell from the summary if they're going to hit all my pet peeves or not. They're hard to stop reading once I get into the middle of one because the tend to be well-written enough for me to want to give them a chance but they hardly ever deliver. |
