HP GOF/OotP Fandom issues

So this one is so common now it has virtually become accepted as canon despite NOT being anything of the sort. The issue here is with the magical contract and Harry's name being entered.

Fandom: Harry because his name is entered and comes out of the goblet of fire is now an adult as they said in the film/book.

Me: No, you are wrong and should go back and check it again, lets look at the points against this theory:

1. The age line: If the tournament was only open and viable for adults then the age line was meaningless as the GOF wouldn't accept or pick those below the adult age.

2. Nowhere is it said that you must be an adult to compete what it says is they are only opening the tournament to 6th and 7th years, meaning this was the choice of the organisers and not part of the official rules.

Fandom: But Harry's name is bound under a contract, that means again he is an adult.

Me: Again wrong, there is nothing in canon stating you must be an adult to sign a contract that is magically binding, in technicality anything than involves writing your name constitutes a contract, school work for example when handing work in is basically stating you wrote/did this yourself and you are responsible for it.

Fandom: But the name is a fake, Harry didn't write his name so he doesn't have to compete.

Me: This one is zig zagged, the name wasn't a fake or a forgery, BC Jr took Harry's name from some of his school work before repairing the paper used and copying the signature BACK to the original work, he put Harry's legitimate signature in to the cup meaning the cup wouldn't reject it, after all Dumbledore asked Harry if someone else put his name in having been asked by Harry himself, so that wouldn't be an issue.

As for competing that is a question, Harry never asked. BUT with the above it is likely he would have to compete or lose his magic unless the punishment is something different like monetary.

Naruto's Henge is special

Damn how often as this one popped up and people have completely ignored canon to boost Naruto to god tier. Too many times.

Fandom: Naruto's henge is solid, everyone else's is not so Naruto is special as its the Kyuubi doing it.

Me: Wrong, nowhere in series is it stated the henge is not solid, its a ninjutsu not a genjutsu everyone's is solid and tangible in fact using the HP magic of animagus/transfiguration would be similar you take on the properties of what you henge into except keep your intelligence, otherwise the ability is completely pointless.

To put it into perspective rewatch the wave arc during the first fight with Zabuza, Naruto henges into a shuriken at no point does anyone wonder how Naruto took on the properties of said item, only they were using its shadow to hide him. Neither Sasuke, Kakashi or Sakura all of whom are smart showed surprise at this development of a solid henge otherwise Sasuke somehow managed to throw Naruto like a shuriken while not being a solid construct (which would be the fandom assumption.)

Also on the theoretical side of henge applications what happens if you henge into someone taller than yourself? We know the henge does your actions from hand movement and eye movement and is made to infiltrate so interaction with others is a requirement. So the henged person meets someone as tall as their cover, the person needs to look up now to see that person, BAM the henge is now staring at the sky. Suspicious or what. Also what happens when the henge needs to handle something? The non solid hand can't grip but a hand coming out of the chest say now carries it, WTF?

On the flip side what if you are henging into someone shorter? What happens to the body parts not under henge? Completely invisible? If so why not use that instead over henge'ing into someone and instead henge into a stone and run around invisible, because henge is solid and would need to be as an infiltration tool.

Naruto Banished/ Danzo getting rid of Naruto

One of the most cliché and worst concepts for writing characters that are often flat or who could make complex enemies or even somewhat ally.

Fandom: I hate *insert character(s)/ village here* so lets banish Naruto for completing the mission so he can get revenge.

Me: While I like a good banishment fic if done well most ain't, having a few in my faves/follows I have found I can't reread them even knowing I enjoyed them. Regarding first Danzo, this man is Konoha first/last/always a type of well intentioned extremist. Naruto has the most powerful Bijuu, so why allow that to be kicked out and end up resenting what he himself loves? Instead he should be fighting to control Naruto in other ways and at least protect him from the outside factors, a few examples:

Time Travel Fics - Bad Ending

I can go either way with these, I do love the concept of a time travel fic. When the hero on the cusp of defeat returns to the past to right a wrong, naturally I love it when these take a good twist like he or she goes back further than intended or winds up in some parallel reality where things went differently to their own time line.

What I don't really like is when it becomes almost perfect canon regurgitation, while the excuse 'the traveller needs to know what to expect' might fly to some, the second the traveller has done something different in one of these events ripples will flow out and change later events.

Take for example Muv Luv, in Unlimited November 11th was the Niigata invasion, it happened and killed many people because no one could anticipate the BETA.

In Alternative Takeru informed Yuuko of it, the attack was stopped. The CIA began their investigation and Yuuko collected living BETA, this resulted in scrutiny of the plan and the attack during the XM3 trials.

In the end if a change is made such as an enemies defeat or death in an event it needs to be taken into account and not just continue as if the canon events happened, honestly we got enough trash on this site which is basic wish fulfilment.

Time Travel Fics - Good/Neutral Ending

This is what got me into writing in the first place, when a story ends under a bittersweet ending or the fans favourite pairing ended up with one dead, everything is fine or the world is rebuilding and the MC decides to ignore everything they learned from the story to go back and save this girl.

These annoy me more so when it goes against everything in the original story and when it is discovered the girl/s in question accept this without complaint even if they should have hated him for it and he is regarded as a hero for it, again Muv Luv fandom is to me the biggest offender I write in.

Reviews

I have after much thinking decided that I will rarely reply to a review, as some have spotted I have moderated Guest reviews after having my fill of:

'Duh slaver ist stoopppid as is u'

Though even less eloquent than that sadly, maybe its a showing of the education system these days, I don't know. Since 80% of guest reviews are often flaming piles of shit like this its easier for me to wipe them out and keep the real reviews that bring something to the table, but seriously if you are going to ask a question don't put it in a guest one I can't reply that way. Though not always but I can't nor won't do anything over members ones and can respect someone for at least having the balls to open up a debate (unless PMs are disabled of course), only rarely would I report one and they have to have done something pretty bad to warrant that from me.

In relation to those saying I need to x or y my story remember this is MY story, not canon nor yours, MINE, I will follow MY vision, if you think x or y is needed write your own instead of asking me to do it your way. If you do that drop me a PM so I can read your story, I will review or PM back on this, review the x or y thing then write your story and I will respond in kind.

Characters

It seems to me there are far to many readers and even writers that can't seem to split the character from the author, far to many reviews I have seen going.

'Stupid author that's not how X works, learn the series'

This is usually in regards to something a character says or thinks. I want to state clearly now, you sir/ma-am are an idiot, just because character A says something doesn't mean its true, people lie and I don't always announce that the character has lied, for example in WOZ, Osmond tells Harry.

'The runes will kill the familiar if the mage dies'

Yes I know this is wrong, we all should know this if we are reading FOZ, however it SOUNDS like something that would be included in a several thousand year old ritual to protect the mage during a binding as it makes sense if you are to keep someone cowed more so when the runes have a slow brainwashing to serve master ability. You can all say you would rather die than be bound but I know you're a bunch of BULLSHITTERS so don't feed me that line.

Bashing

I don't bash, period.

I will state now and clearly, I don't like HP or FOZ, the premise is fine, so much potential to be used by us, but the execution I felt was poorly done, hell I didn't read the FOZ LN, couldn't stomach the first chapter of it, Colbert was the most hated character I have ever had the displeasure of reading/watching. And he is supposed to be a good character? No Colbert I hate, Louise I do like, Kirche and Guiche too (After his humbling).

But I am adult enough that I can see past that and write a character of him, whether he is bad or good is up to the plot, Guiche is a good example, my up coming chapter 5 of WOZ will have him firmly in asshole territory based on current events, while there is no excuse for his actions there were events that led to it.

With this stated I do place heavy emphasis on character development, whether Guiche in the above example slowly redeems himself or turns into a rabid monster will depend on events as they come, whether he does become more evil or not it will be laid out however unlike a myriad of fics where no one changes even when reasoning to do so is staring them in the face.

Canon Railroading

A pet hate of mine here, this is Fan Fiction and yet half the stuff is regurgitated canon fix fics, seriously if your imagination is that poor why bother? At least think about the repercussions of X or Y that you added. For example Naruto meeting the Kyubi earlier like around 6 years old.

What would that do? How did it happen? Both of these questions have such potential I could probably write a dozen opening fics with this premise and make them different, an outline:

Naruto heading home stumbles across a thug attacking someone (the thug can be a non entity civilian or say an Uchiha clan member, maybe even drunk. The victim can be say Hinata)

Basis: Naruto finds a drunk Uchiha attacking Hinata, on the floor a branch clan member badly injured, the drunk man dealing with family problems and the obvious clan hatred is taking it out on the girl, Naruto interjects being Naruto, the man attacks Naruto as Hinata is frozen in fear and stabs him once in the gut, Naruto is now bleeding out on the floor and is pulled inside his mindscape.

The Kyubi is naturally pissed at this knowing it could die and makes a deal with Naruto, power for its own survival and future demands, since Naruto doesn't want to die either he agrees and power flows. Naruto awakens to see a rapidly healing wound and attacks and either beats or kills the attacker before either escaping with Hinata or not. (Both ideas lead to at least 4 separate branches of the story)

The Kyubi chakra is felt by many causing more panic and reaction from the Shinobi population (especially the Hokage and Danzo). From this you got the opening for a full blown ripple event, investigations, inter clan politics and a very different Naruto.

NOTICE: Due to distractions and some new information I have obtained, I feel my main story Infinity Plus just isn't cutting it, while many of you have said otherwise to the story and I thank you all, I am currently in a rewrite (another) of the IP main story.

I base my percentages on a targeted 10k chapter, naturally this isn't hard and fast, but the easiest way for me and yourselves to work out my progress.

Infinity Plus (Redux)

Takeru's resolve broke again at Kashgar and sent him into an endless loop of death leaving him apathetic and with a stubborn resolve to save his friends, with a lifetime of experience Takeru tries to make smaller changes knowing sometimes things can snowball into bigger events.
